batch mode doesn't work

I'm converting a bunch of home movie clips. I have them in AVI, and use DVD2SVCD to convert them to XSVCD format.

DVD2SVCD works great if I run a file by itself - but since my clips vary from 30 seconds to 4 minutes - would be nice to use the batch mode to load up a que and let it work overnight.

I've read the other threads - I have stop/wait in front of each line - I start each conversion through the audio extraction up to the start of video encoding. When TMPGEnc starts, I stop it and DVD2SVCD. All files have their own subdirectory.

What happens is TMPGEnc comes up - and it's like no info is passed to it, it comes up with the info (video file and such) of the last file I encoded. No encoding is going on - it just sits there. Computer doesn't lock up, I can close TMPGEnc and DVD2SVCD.

I'm using Win98SE.

I don't see your logfile, where is it?
Is your 30-day-limit of TMPGenc over?

I'll rerun and post the log file(s). It will be a while - I'm backup up some DVDs (so the kids don't wreck my originals).

I registered TMPGEnc (and paid), so I'm good there.

Don't get me wrong, I've not used batch encode before, but doesn't it only work if there is a d2s file in the batch list? So the only way I could see it working, is if you start each individual avi and just stop it to create a crash recovery file and input that in the batch. then again, that may not work either... I don't know.

Leon is right, you have to start each episode with dvd2svcd, select 'rip only', close dvd2svcd, start dvd2svcd again, select next episode, 'rip only' , close again and so on.
I hope you don't just copy an existing directory, renamed it and placed the different VOB/avi in it, I have doubt this would work.

I put each of my AVI clips in a seperate directory. I then set the directory with DVD2SVCD and start conversion on that clip. I let it run till the video encoding starts - then I stop the whole process. I do this for each clip.

I then put one line for each clip in my batch file.

An example line in my batch file is

start/wait "c:\Program Files\Pegasys Inc\TMPGEnc Plus 2.5\TMPGEnc.exe" -d2s:"d:\capture\c10\dvd2svcd project file.d2s" -run -exit

I'm still doing dvd conversion, but I'll rerun and post the log file soon.

Your batch is starting TMPGEnc, not DVD2SVCD. A line in my batch look like this:
"C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\DVD2SVCD.exe" -d2s:"D:\SVCD\Tibet\Source\dvd2svcd project file.d2s" -run -exit

I don't need this 'start/wait' as I'm running Win2K, but this is not the problem. I think your line should point to DVD2SVCD.exe not TMPGEnc.exe.

Oh good grief. Thanks for pointing out the obvious. I'm quite sure this will solve my problem.

I finally got it to work.

One additional note for anyone reading this thread - you have to start the conversion on each clip manually. However, you don't have to run it till the video conversion starts. I found out you can stop DVD2SVCD after the audio extraction - so I stop after BeSweet starts - stop both BeSweet and DVD2SVCD.

Also, as stated above in a reply - batch mode is just recovery run from a batch file. So, you have to have the DON'T DELETE FILES checked in the misc. section - otherwise the needed files aren't kept for recovery (and batch mode).
