I have authored and burned a DVD, now I want to make a copy... Trying to copy the whole dvd in a directory, and what surprise? The VTS_04_0.BUP file cannot be read!

All the other files are okay but not him.. Is there a way to do a kind of "recreate" the DVD with this BUP file?

I cannot even open it in Notepad!

Help again!

Ok ok... I have just compared a pair of .bup and .ifo file from my vts_03 and it seems that they are identical.. I will take the chance to duplicate and rename my vts_04_0.ifo in .bup to see if it will work!

I don't really understand if the .BUP files are necessary, but in my PC DVD the DVD work great..

I have found a copy of this DVD and same problem, the file is unreadable. Could someone explain me what is the utility of BUP files if they are identical to IFO files?

Ciao!

It's backup file of IFO file, they are/must be identical.
They are present cause if IFO files get corupted they serve info to player, purpose of IFO files is to tell DVD player how VOB files are composed and formated, what audio, subtitles are present.........
Copy & paste IFO file then rename copy to BUP.
