Hi;
Can I upgrade the avisynth and decomb in the DVD2SVCD subfolders with the new upraded versions of Avisynth & decomb?

I'm having a slow audio sync loss -about 1 sec every 2hrs with some telecided video....

I wonder if the new decomb would help?

any thoughts?

thx

I don't know about Decomb, but if you get the newest Beta of DVD2SVCD that is linked in the Help thread in the advanced forum it includes Avisynth 2.06 I believe.

The rule of thumb is that if you change any of the bundled software you are on you own. DVD2SVCD cannot control any changes that might effect the outcome. Sometimes inputs change or it may cause an issue. DVD2AVI is a great example of a newer version not working with DVD2SVCD.

perhaps we could start a "versions list" that lists all the version numbers of each program used in DVD2SVCD along with the current version # and an explaination of if/how the newer version works with DVD2SVCD.

Some explainations could be as simple as: DVD2SVCD checks for previous version
while others (DVD2AVI) might need a more in depth response.

This could be an interactive list that would help dvd2svcd keep up on the latest revisions of some great software(after all, he always recommends his latest version of his). I mean, these new versions are there for a reason most of the time...improvements, bugfixes, etc.

pacohaas the problem with that is that when versions change often the way it works can change as well causing major issues with DVD2SVCD. This is the main reason the software is packaged as a bundle.

Support also will become a nightmare if we do not have common software.

When a new version is introduced and DVD2SVCD has tested and approved it this latest version is included in any new release.
Whenever we have had improvements in the past with a bundled program and DVD2SVCD thinks it will work this is then posted to try.

DVD2SVCD's standard line whenever asked about upgrading is Do not change any version of the software unless told to do so.

The only exception to this rule seems to be BeSweet since we have DSPGuru around to help as well.

I am afraid a list like that in the hands of a newbie could seriously confuse and possibly screw up their encodes.

the problem with that is that when versions change often the way it works can change as well causing major issues with DVD2SVCD.Does this really happen that often? usually a bugfix or 2 doesn't change the way something works externally, only internally. At any rate, that's what the list would be for, to tell users not to upgrade if a certain package has changed the way it works to be incompatible with the current version of DVD2SVCD.
DVD2SVCD's standard line whenever asked about upgrading is Do not change any version of the software unless told to do so.I know, but people still don't seem to listen (see the first post in this thread ;))

I know, but people still don't seem to listen (see the first post in this thread )

I realize that, but the standard answer still applies.
By making such a list we will be encouraging something we don't want and creating far more work for DVD2SVCD. In the end he is the one that must approve all upgrades.

I just want to keep the amount of work down. DVD2SVCD is very busy, Chainsaw135 is not around much anymore and I will be harder to find here once I get a new job. We just don't have the manpower to keep ontop of a project and I really think it's far more trouble then it's worth. We can't keep up to date with the Q+A already.

Yeah i have to agree with mark on that, we have always said that you should use what dvd2svcd gives in his package. Just makes it easyer for the staff to troubleshoot problems with individual users.
