help me to save reencode time

I am currently using ATI AIW Radeon 8500, when I write the captured mpeg2 720x480 48khz a/v file to a dvd-r using dvdit pe 2.5 or any other authoring program it has to reencode it, this takes alot of time. Is there another capture device at the same or greater quality as the ati card that will not need to reencode under dvdit pe? If not why does it take so long? about an hour on my 1.5 P4

Video encoding just plain takes time, there are no 2 ways about it. Over in the DVD2SVCD forums, a complete conversion generally takes users about 24 hours of nonstop processing. It makes you want to splurge on that new $6000 system, doesn't it? :D

I guess what I am trying to find out is if DVDit PE 2.5 ALWAYS transcodes every video you import into it, or does ATI create a video file that DVDit needs to CHANGE? If I can purchase another video capture device that DVDit PE 2.5 can simply import without changing anything I would be interested in doing so. I capture alot of Video through cable and sat tv. So this would save me a ton of time. I am really trying to decide to either buy a new faster system or different capture card, I would rather go capture card if no transcode and better overall capture quality...

You probably get an MPEG-2 transport stream from you ATI card. But for DVD burning you need an MPEG-2 program stream. Try to use PVAstrumento to demultiplex your MPEG-2 stream, then re-multiplex it again with PVAstrumento. Try to load the resulting MPEG-2 program stream into DVDit.

Please report if you were successful. I cannot tell for sure if that works, but I had a similar problem regarding DVB streams.

where would i get PVAstrumento? idid searches for it but couldn't find it. also, is there a capture card out there that i wouldn't have to demux or that dvdit would leave alone. If dvdit takes program streams than what card would give me one?

Which search engine do you use? Ever tried www.google.com?
Concerning the capture card: I don't know (I capture in MJPEG using a standard TV card, then re-encode to MPEG-4). But the demuxing / muxing process takes a few minutes only, not hours like re-encoding.
