Hi there.

Before anyone flames, I've done a search and tried various things to backup this movie to DVD-R. Now, I have tried and tried but not ready to give up because people have said they can put MOVIE ONLY of Shrek onto 1 DVD-R. I have not succeeded, but now I want to more than ever because this is the only one of my movies I have not been able to do. Call me stubborn.

I am looking for someone (if possible) to provide some step by step. Here are the steps I used, please feel free to correct, add or scrap them.

SHREK - R1
RIP using DVDDECRYPTER with options as follows:
file mode
rip entire DVD to hardrive (select all files)
multi-angle processing enabled keeping only angle 1

Process using IFOEDIT094 (also tried 093, 091 etc).
Open up main movie IFO VTS_01_0.IFO
Select VOB extras and placed a tick on the following:
STRIP STREAMS - Selection only 2ch audio english soundtrack
Remove Angles - Keeping Angle 1 (which in turn places a tick on STRIP VOBS and REMOVE LLVU/ANGLE POINT)
Correct VOB UNIT
Correct ORIGINAL IFO FILES
Create NEW IFO FILES (movie only)

Remove PUOPS
Remove Macrovisison
Adjust VOB UNIT POINTERS
Adjust AUDIO/SUBP P0INTERS

So after this is done, I still have a VIDEO_TS folder that is 287 megs bigger than would fit on a DVD-R.

Any ideas? I don't want to concede defeat or re-encode.

use smartripper to open your last vob effort.
see if the "end credits" of the movie are in a chapter by themselves.
if so, do a "movie" rip without this chapter.

just a thought.

Can't remember my exact steps for Shrek. But I have the 1.78 version of Shrek on
1 DVD-R (3.87 GB) movie only, DD english 5.1, no subtitles.
All chapters advance to the correct points including the last chapter....End Credits.

I used smartripper....all files to HD

loaded the main movie ifo
stripped streams (I kept English DD 5.1)

kept all the default settings on the check boxes, except

Checked create new ifos

When it was done... 3.87 GB

hope this helps.

I was able to copy the widescreen format of Shrek with no problems. Just the movie and the 5.1 track. It fits fine.

I did a backup of Shrek Disc 1 with everything, minus the stupid music videos..

What I did, copied everything to the hard drive, straight copy nothing ripped from it at this point.

Then with IfoEdit I removed the multi-angles keeping the one I wanted (angle 1), ripped the subtitles and the extra languages.. was still too big, ripped the music videos to give me more space, but still too big

I wanted everything else so I decided to downsample the movie. I figured no 90 minute movie needed to be over 4gig in size for just the video! Downsampled nicely, I can't remember my average bitrate in CCE, but I think it was around 2500, no grey blocks at all! Reauthored, and presto.. I think the only problem I had was the chapter points were off, but I didn't mind..

... or transcode the vob menu file with rempeg. This vob file is about 600 Mb...

Not sure if that will buy you enough space even.. but I can't remember the size of all the stuff from that disc, too long ago :) I do remember that menu vob though, 600 meg menu.. eesh..

I thought the extras on the disc were worthwhile enough to try and keep.. except for the baha men
