dvd drive region unlocking

I have a pioneer dvd-r dvr104 i have upgraded to the latest firmware from firmware fr but the drive info program says my drive is still locked to region 2 ( but can be unlocked )how do i do this please.

Just because a firmware is on that page doesn't mean it is region-free ... a page with rpc-1 firms for your drive is linked from firmware.fr.st. Try those.

my drive is rpc-2 firmware at the moment ( region 2 UK )....can i replace this safely with a rpc-1 firmware ?

Flashing a firmware always has its risks. Just to quote from farzeno: This pages are only for advanced users.
Bad flashing could destroy your drive definitively.
Read carrefully the installation
notes of your firmware upgrade.
At your own risk!!!!
I personally never killed a drive through flashing, but you never know. Read up and be sure that you know exactly what you are doing (read: pick an appropriate firmware revision) before trying it. Also read their forum, you will find threads like this one: http://forum.firmware-flash.com/viewtopic.php?p=19114#19114 . Sorry for not being more helpful, but I don't have a dvd-r drive myself.

all of Gradius firmwares r there

they are all
RPC1 region free
2x 4 all (burn all DVD-r media at 2x)

I use v1.31 and it works fine!
