CCE: Upper field 1st - which tool gives true value?

Is there a tool that accurately tells me if a video source is encoded with Upper field 1st = true.
I don't trust bitrate viewer and DVD2AVI doesn't tell me so how do all u guys find out?

BTW, Bitrate Viewer always tells me 'Yes' (on 2nd VOB), yet when I re-encode video sources (usually 'extras'), it screws up all the motion encoding.
I've discovered (the hard way), that unchecking the field does correct playback of the extra material so that it plays correctly on my TV (it plays OK on the PC regardless).

I know there has been some discussion about this and other options in CCE and ppl say don't check the value at all. However, I keep it checked for movies (Interlaced PAL 25fps) and all have been OK.

Anyone help?

Bitrate Viewer only checks the flags for top field first once. If they are changing, it won't toggle its display. If you are re-encoding, every piece of video should be checked separately, because the field order can and does change. Your video should also be encoded separately to ease the amount of headaches that these flags can apply.

Most of these programs rely on reading the TTF flags in the MPEG header to make the determination what field is first.

As for encoding with CCE, 95% of my encodes were done with the box checked.

You can download the demo for the program that encompasses that app and get that little executable without even installing the demo. And no time limit =)

I'm going to try the tools you mentioned. :)

FYI, 90% of my CCE re-encodes were done with it checked (and have been OK). It only happens when I re-encode documentaries/interviews (extras) which are mostly in 4:3 aspect ratio.

Hi,

you should NOT check it at all, CCESP has a bug which destroys macroblock optimization. CCESP shifts the picture by one line with UPPER = ON (nasty bug).
