I am totally lost with rempeg. I have read so many articles on using rempeg and remuxing and can't seem to get this right. I have ripped and burned about 80 dvds and have split about 15 other movies. I use Smart ripper to rip just the movie. I clean it up, so now I have the Blues Brothers down to 4.8gb and also, Licence to Kill down to 4.41gb. I have followed several guides and once the movie was encoded, the Blues Brothers was down to 4.35gb. When I opened ifoedit back up to remux, the file won't open. I have tried this several times and nothing. For the heck of it, I opened the movie up in 'media player' and the movie played but with out any sound. So I am missing a step or two. Will someone please help me. When and where does the audio file come in? And if possible, would someone get me a real step by step guide to this. I printed out your guide and several others and still don't get it.

If you just want the movie:
1) DVDDecrypter to HD ( i personally don't do the whole disc but the guides tell you to)
2) Use DVD2AVI "Save Project" to extract audio and create the d2v file
3) Open the file (small script) in rempeg (follow the guides)
4) Use DVD-Calculator to determine what % you should decrease
5) Rempeg the vobs (use the guides for settings)
6) Remux using IFOEdit.
7) Test the files VIDEO_TS.ifo in PowerDVD 4
8) Burn

I haven't used Rempeg is quite some time so I may be wrong in a few places but this should certainly help. The guides were VERY easy to follow.

Thank you for your information, but I did that already. I can't use dvd decryter, it makes my computer crash. I did follow the guides, but in one of the guides, it shows - cffl
c:\what woman want\ and
for the file, it doesn't take the slashes and things of that sort.
I made the cffl file with just the vobs, then I couldn't get it to the folder to save. I made an audio folder in with the video_ts folder and still nothing. I am not stupid, but somewhere, I am missing a step that is throwing the whole thing off. Also, I was told that I didn't need the d2v file, so after I rip a dvd, I delete it before I open ifoedit. I haven't had any problem with any of the other dvds that I've burned and played. I have downloaded tmpeng(?) and I am going to try that. Maybe I might be able to use that. I am fairly new at this and I really hate being a bother. Thank you again.

rempeg is a doddle to use.

go to the folder where you have copied the main movie vobs.
Right click and creat "new text document"
now open the "new text document"
First Type CFFL (in caps)
next type the names of your vobs you wanna re-encode
ie
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB

And thats it

A finished jobbie should summmat like this

CFFL

VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
VTS_01_5.VOB


after you have save your new text document start remeg2 up
Click General tab then the open button and point it to you new text document
Rempeg2 will then scan the vobs ( about 10 - 15 mins )
when its finished Click the options tab set your output resolution, Frame mode and your bit rate.
go back to the general tab and click encode. Tell it where and what you wanna call it( dont forget to give the name a .m2v extension)

Now go down the pub and get completely hammered, come home, fall asleep for at least half a day. When you awaken It may and only may be nearly finished. :lol

Thank you, I will give this a shot probably tomorrow. What's with the audio file? Where does that come in?

The audio file must be extracted as a separate step (Use DVD2AVI and demux the stream you want) and then re-muxed with the video file. You can do that in an authoring program or in IFOEdit which is very easy.

There is no need to extract the audio file.
just tell rempeg2 where the vobs are like ive already explained above.
When you have your reduced m2v file us ifoedit to remux it in to the origional vobs. which will then produce a new set of vobs with all audio intact.
Either pop all those new files in a video_ts folder and burn to disc.
or you can put the vobs back into the origional disc and with the aid of ifo-update have a fully working reduced size origional.

Well, I've gotten two different ways to do this in one thread.
I have ripped the movie with Smartripper and used ifoedit for the vob extras. Ended up with a file {blue} of 4.8gb. I opened the folder and entered the new text document and ddid as Baffervance said. Opened rempeg and got the cffl with the new text of vobs. Rempeg did it's little thing. I have everything set and hit encode. It showed nothing was happening. I let it be for abit and still showed nothing was happening. I went to close out of rempeg and it says that it was trancoding, did I still want to close and of course, I said no. Now, after one hour, it still shows nothing is happening. Before, it showed that it took almost ten hours when it encoded and it also showed the rate that it was doing it at. So, what is going now, should this be?

Dunno if re-mpeg likes one big file.
Ive allways ripped the individual vobs.

Use this guide cos ive litterally explained how i do it on my machine and that works fine for me :)

After 12 hours, it finally showed 4 bytes were transcoded. This is really bull, just total nonsense!
