Most fansubs are using SBC and XviD. And I think most of the dvd-rips floating around are SBC.

I'm not sure how popular Divx 4 and 5 are but most people seem to use SBC, does this mean SBC is the optimal codec for anime?

Hi

The only codec I have used for animes is DivX 5 and they look
pretty good to me, I have encoded Ninja Sroll and Mars Wars
with amazing results.

With Ninja Scroll I encoded the sound in Ogg format to have enough
room for the best video quality, it looks close to the original DVD
I must say.

P.S.
I used Strong Psychovisual Enhancement the final size of the anime was 25 megabytes less, after this I realised I could use a higher bitrate.

Yes I've been reading about this OGG sound format. I think it is alot better for anime since we're trying to squeeze a 23 minute episode into 233MB of space.

A friend of mine uses Divx5; he said it was alot easier. But being me, I always opt to go the hard way so that in the end I can praise myself for taking on a harder obstacle.

XviD is the best for anime, IMO. When the b-frames and qpel get into the stable version soon, I don't think there will even be any question about it.
