Setup of dedicated capture drive

One of the things suggested in the Capture FAQ to improve capturing is use a HD strictly for capturing. What is not mentioned is HOW it should be setup and WHY. I did a search and came up with the suggestion that the OS drive should be on the Primary/Master control while the cap drive should be on the Secondary/Master. What is the difference in both bus load and cpu load as opposed to putting cap drive on the Primary/slave controller? What about using a PCI IDE card like Promise vs. the MB built in IDE controller? I plan on buying a second hard drive for capturing and I want to do this right.

If you are planning on buying a second hard drive and a promise controoler card as well, then maybe you should buy the fastrak 2x promise raid card and two smaller hard drives. Example: instaed of buying 1 80GB drive buy 2 40GB drives instead. then setup the two drives in a raid (striped) configuration. You will get a far better sustained transfer rate than any other setup off your mother board.\
I have never had a dropped frame from my captures since I set my system up this way.
