I was at Fry's the other day and they had 256mb pc133 lifetime warranty ram for $19.95 out the door(no rebates/coupons etc.)I just thought it was going to help some in photoshop but i noticed my encoding speed increased to 0.816 from 0.746 with my original 256mb stick.I have a not so fast 1ghz computer so i think it was a nice unexpected benefit.

under 1, sorry but that is miserable ... I get up to 1.75 on 1 pass VBR and 1.5 - 1.6 on 5 pass VBR
my specs aren't that much better than yours:
CCE 2.5
Avisynth
P4 1.6 OC'ed to 2.13
512 MB DDR PC-2100

Can you read?Since when is a more than twice as fast a computer not"that much better".DUH!In fact,with your specs,you are on the slow side-0.8 with PIII 1Ghz/133ram is about right.What is the point of your post?I just wanted to let others know that your performance can be increased by 10% easily & cheaply(not everyone wants to overclock or know how).

@H-O-V-E-R
I have only a celeron 1100MHz @PIII-1500, which I've bought a year ago, but I reached a speed of 3.5 while encoding(souce avi, whitout resize but with fa´st filter for temporal and spatal smoothing, output vcd). Whithot smoothing I got a factor over 5.
Remember: speed allway depends on many factors(filter, source, target etc.) With your 1.5 or 1.6 you have not reached the world record.
