cce encoding failed: AVIStreamRead() failed

Folks,

Anyone with an idea what the heck is it:


"cce encoding failed: AVIStreamRead() failed (0x8004406d): A disk error occurred while reading the file."


I am trying to encode DV footage to MPEG2 (plan to write it to DVD).

Running on W2k on my P4/2GHz Compaq, I capture with Ulead VideoStudio 5 and/or Adobe Premiere 6 through firewire. All DV files I create are fine for TMPGEnc, and it's encoding them with no problem.

When I installed CCE v2.50 demo for a trial and compare with TMPGEnc, than have run into the strange message above. Any DV-AVI input file gets to about 7000 +/- 2...30 frames long during encoding, than crashes CCE at the same point (0x8004406d), while the resulting MPG file (about 4+ min.) is absolutely fine, I attached the log file from cce.

I see no point to cut an 1 hr DV footage to 4 minute slices, just to keep CCE "happy" - maybe the problem lies somewhere else.

I am using a totally "clean environment", i.e., no warez stuff - and have no clue, how can I get over this. If I cannot solve this, than certainly CCE won't be my choice for real work, but I would really cry after the ultimate speed of CCE vs. TMPGEnc ...

Forgot to mention: in the same environment I produced a full hour MPEG2 file from a DVD2AVI project, frameserving with VFAPI to CCE - just for test and see if anything was missing - no crash, full hour output.
Seems CCE does not like DV?

PS.: probably this is the reason, why CCE is not in the DV section of the forum ...

how big is the source file? Sometimes CCE has a problem reading large files (2Gig+). A workaround is to make a simple Avisynth script:

AviSource("C:\mydir\myfile.avi")

If CCE freezes up when you try and add this .avs script to the encode list add the line:

ResampleAudio(44100)

I tried to avoid exceeding the 2GB limit of CCE, but anything above 4 min. DV (what is about 1GB file and up ) crashes at the same point.
Even funnier, that when trying the plugin in Preimere, the whole encoding stops at the beginning, and the output (?) is crap

I will now try frameserving to CCE, just a question: if I resample audio to 44,1k, would not the DVD authoring progam cry for 48k instead?

frameserving does not work - it crashes in the very first moment. I tried NT/SP3 compatibility mode - did not help. Tried CRC stuff - same. Added ResampleAudio(44100) to the .AVS - CCE says framerate 1/1 not supported (WTF?) Went to another machine, same story - I feel the bug is somewhere in the DV-AVI file - but only CCE complains?

Thank you for the link - you are right, it must totally be the same problem, although in different environment (funny enough, some night I saw this thread, but somehow overlooked).

In the meantime I did some other probes - see my findings back there.
