I have searched the site with no direct results to this problem i've encountered.
When I playback my encoded video, no matter what type of video it is the video either starts "jerking", or pauses entirely resuming in sync with the audio 10-30 seconds later. I have tried changing from using TMPEG as an encoder to CCE. This helped but the problem still exists. My CCE setttings are as follows:
Multipass VBR-4
Image quality priority-17 (also tried 14, 15 and 20)
antinoise filter-unchecked(tried unchecked)
Field order- automatic
advanced- untouched.

For audio I have tried both 128 and 160

in the frameserver tab I use simple resize and temporal smoother with a strength of 2 and radius of 1.
Please lend me your suggestions.

:logfile:

By playback do you mean on the PC or on a standalone?

What is the source of your video (avi or DVD MPEG2)?

Do what Hitch says, but in addition.

What did you use to burn the files?

Have you checked to see if your player properly supports SVCD's at www.vcdhelp.com

Try raising your Audio bitrate to 192 or 224.

If you have been downsampling the audio to 44.1 uncheck that and leave it at 48 and if you have it unchecked now then check it. Basically trying the opposite of whatever you were doing before.

Watch the bbmpeg_muxed_mpg files in PowerDVD or WinDVD to see if it happens there as well.

If it doesn't try slowing the burn speed on the CD-R to 4X or as slow as your burner will go(Most newer burners will not burn slower then 8X).

Where is your log file? Post it using cut and paste and not attach.

missing info...i'm converting to VCD instead of SVCD.
I thought the burn speed might be the problem so I converted the bin/cue files to mpeg with VCDGear and played the movie in windows media player and the same problem showed. Therefore I ruled out burn speed issues.
question. Would you please explain how raising the audio bitrate would remedy the problem? As I understand it, raising the bitrate in audio would take from the bitrate in the video and essentially increasing the problem. Is this theory wrong?? (i'm fairly new to this)

I really hope you used one of the two included rippers to rip the DVD.

VCD spec calls for 224 audio at 44.1.
SVCD can vary, but also calls for 44.1. Many DVD players have issues with 128kbit or lower audio rates. Most DVD players have no issues with 48 Audio for SVCD's.

VCD Spec calls for 1150Kbit CBR video and 224Kbit CBR audio at 44.1.

I have a feeling you have some settings wrong.

Did you load the VCD-Settings.ini file before you began?

Mostly you will only see problems on stand alone players and not on the PC.

Audio can and will affect the entire audio/video mix since they are linked. If there is an error in one it can effect the other.

We still need your log file. We can't help without it.

Don't use Windows Media player to error check a DVD2SVCD created file. It is very unreliable. Use only PowerDVD or WinDVD.

You don't need to convert anything to check the file. Look for Daemon tools in the Q+A. This creates a Psuedo DVD drive out of Cue/bin files.

You should also have the BBmpeg_Muxed_File.mpg files. If you do those are what are put into the Bin file. So just play them in WinDVD.

also why are you using 1.0.0 build 3? or is that a typo?

yes. Sorry. I'm using 1.0.9 build three. Thank you for catching that.
I believe that I did have my bitrate settings wrong. I corrected the settings and am encoding a video now. I'll let you know the outcome :p

Hi

I had the same problem when making out of spec VCD and no-one on the forum could help me, so I needed to find the solution myself.

The problem is that when you make VCD's with audio/video bitrate other than 1150/244, there is a problem with bbmpeg's muxing. You need to change the "Force mux rate" in the bbmpeg settings to a larger value or else you get thousends of data underflows. If you look at the program while muxing, you will see it gives you a warning before its starts, and when it starts to mux it shows all the underflows.

I also don't know why nobody picked up this problem. Maybe because most people only use svcd/cvd; and when someone tries vcd (slightly out of spec but still playable in most dvd players) and get problems, they blame it on the dvd-player.

thank you for the last reply. I actually through trial and error discovered that my problem was the bitrate. Are SVCD's playable in most DVD players as well? If so what are the bitrate specifications if any. Thanks again

check your dvd player at www.vcdhelp.com
the specs for each dvd player is different. there is no general rule for how high/low of a bitrate that a player can handle.
