View Full Version : My problems continue... please help

Hi.. I'm this week's "IDIOT-NEWBIE-OF-THE-WEEK" needing help... again.
I'm sorry for all the posts. I cant get Gknot fine-tuned. I only have about 1month experience with all this stuff.

Anyway, after processing a 10hour job thru GKnot, the final project is no where near the quality I was expecting. The project does play both the video and audio, but the video quality is terrible.

I'm sure I set up Gknot to process a 2CDR output (1,433,600kb) but I got back a terrible looking .AVI file with a filesize of only 507,830kb. This makes no sense to me....

(posting GKNOT LOG on 2nd post below...)

It looks like an encoder failure, though it's hard to say without seeing more info.

Please post the entire _GKnot.log, if you still have it available, as I'd like to see the first pass and some of the other values as well.

You should also post the uncommented lines from your .avs file (remove all that begin with "#").

And, just for a further test, see if you can open your .avs in a player and scroll through sections of it to see if it's working alright.

I opened the .AVS file and played it thru Windows Media Player 6.4.
The video came up but it didnt play very well. It played very very
slow and choppy. I also noticed the color-palette seemed 'off'...
Kind of like is was a low-res 16bit color. It also looked
slightly grainy. No where near the quality of the original .vob files.

Now, I can play regular DVD .vob files beautifully thru my InterVideo
WinDVD 4 Player software. So I dont think its a hardware problem...

As far as posting the "uncommented lines from your .avs file"...
I dont know what you are asking me to do... sorry...explain it to
me and I'll post it.

Here are my partitions within my one and only 30gb drive:
Drive C: is where my Windows 2000 Pro OS is
Drive D: is where I rip all the .vob files from SmartRipper
Drive E: is where I point Gknot to put all the project files.

Here's the GKNOT LOG:

You had a failure in the first pass:5:43:15 AM: Error: Could not open E:\ampie.log This log file -- the frame-by-frame analysis done by the first pass in order to create the second pass -- wasn't found. The first pass apparently didn't produce it.

There are several possible reasons for this error, but the most common reason is that DivX 5 is not installed properly. This can happen with GKnot, if you install Gknot after installing DivX 5. GKnot's install includes DivX 4, and an install of DivX 4 on top of DivX 5 is a bad thing. You can check if DivX 5 is installed, by starting Virtual Dub, then use the Video...Compression menu command, and see if DivX 5 is installed.

Regarding .avs "playback" -- The .avs script points to your .d2v project, which then points inside the .vob stream. It's not the same as "playback" of a .vob file directly. You're not looking for performance, but you are looking to see if frames display.

Regarding .avs script comments: An .avs script is a text file that acts like an .avi file in players (or in Virtual Dub, used by Gordian Knot to do the encoding). If you open the file in Notepad or another text editor, or press the "Edit" button on Gknot's save&encode window, you will see text that looks like this:#
# Created with Gordian Knot
#
# http://thewef.nav.to
#
# PLUGINS
# get them from http://users.win.be/dividee
LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\GORDIA~1\mpeg2dec.dll")

#LoadPlugin("C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\vobsub.dll")
#LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\GORDIA~1\SimpleResize.dll")
.
.
.
.Lines that begin with "#" are ignored by .avs, and are either comments or are disabled commands.

This is exactly what happened. I was cleaning-up my hard-drive and I
reinstalled DivX5Pro then I reinstalled Gknot. After reviewing VDub
I did not have the DivX5Pro codec.

Wow... this stuff is really sensitive. But hopefully all my ducks
are now lined up in a row and I'll do another job tonight and see
how things look in the morning.

Thanks to all on these boards, especially jggimi & manono :D :D :D
