I have never had problems playing divx or DVD's on my system until now (Athlon 600 and windows xp pro) but recently (I installed xp again from scratch) I see that the image is too dark (both on DVdD and divx). In the divx I corrected that with the ffdshow settings but that doesn't seem for me the right solution. Running other aplications on my pc, the image on my monitor is well.
anyone an idea?

maybe with the installation, you may need to configure the gamma settings for your video card. I've had a similar problem and this seems to work

If your card is nvidia based, overlay is usually too low by default.
With nvidia cards, you must be playing a video to modify the overlay.
Play a video, right click on the desktop and go your advanced properties for your card. Look for the overlay tab, bump up the gamma.
