Very slow encoding

I'm getting encoding speeds of about 8-9 fps (still on the first pass), which is MUCH slower than DivX 5 at this resolution (640x352). Is this about the right kind of speed for a 1 GHz Athlon with 256 MB DDR RAM? I get about 15 fps using DivX 5 at that res. Just wondering, that's all. Should I use a search precision of 5 rather than 6?

I'm using Keopi's build dated 04102002.

How can anyone determine if your speed is on the low side if you don't tell us what settings/filters you used?

Sorry about that...was half way through typing message, went out to do something else, and hit submit when i got back.

Here's the avisynth script:

I left pretty much all the internal settings as the default value. Anything else you need to know to comment on the speed?

Did you hit "load defaults" after installing the codec?

Your performance is achieved by my duron700 without problems, with that script+search precision 6 I get ~10-12fps (worst case) and more...

I did hit Load Defaults after installing the codec. Should I not have done? I'll try another encode having hit default and then not changing a single setting, just to be sure it's not something obscure.

With QPel set I only get about 7-10fps with this 1Gz Celeron & at that kind of resolution.... :( Its just the way it is :)

That stable build has no qpel or bframes ;)

Well, dunno what else can go wrong to be a performance killer... Maybe you should check the CPU detection tabulator and set them by hand?
