Reducing .m2v file.

Does anybody know of a way to reduce .m2v file without using REMPEG.

Better yet can any of you genius out there (seriously) develope a modular DVD-R back-up program???

i.e.

1. Decrypt
2. Auto re-encode to fit on single or choose 2 DVD-R (4.7 GB)

there is a couple of automated DVD-9 -> DVD-5 programs out there, one by audio giant steinberg as well

there is one that tyris (i think) is trying to make, which is an early closed beta atm, but is shaping up.

cant remember the name of the other one, but DVD-9 -> DVD-5 programs are technically DVD Burning programs, so there would be more info of them in that forum.

Hmmm, yes, auenf, I read the news about Steinberg's entry into the DVD backup market with interest. This company is very well established, and well-respected. My, my - how things have changed, such that a respected company now feels safe enough to produce a product in direct opposition to the desires of the (very powerful) MPAA lobbyists. This would have been absolutely unthinkable only a couple of years ago, to say nothing of probable commercial suicide.

Although the law (as has been argued by De-CSS supporters) does support the legitimate backing up of copyrighted material *by the original purchaser of the retailed item* (the so-called "fair use" clause), this is nonetheless rocky territory for a *commercial* software developer, with a great deal to lose if things go pear-shaped. I will watch events with great interest!

I have read and have performed those operations with varying degrees of success. More on the successful side. I was hoping that somebody would make a truly automated method that asks for user inputs. In other words, make the technology work for the user not the other way around but thanks for your input. :)

Unfortunately, nothing good in life comes entirely for free, but then I don't need to tell you that, as I 'm sure your mum has told you that many times! :D

If you have been ("mostly") successful in your past efforts, then I'd continue in the same vein. Hell, many of us diehard video nuts actually enjoy the creative process of tweaking software tools to get the best possible result - in many respects it adds to the sense of satisfaction at the final result. Or perhaps I'm just weird. (Don't answer that!) :p
