Thanks to MIKECITO I only need one more solution, hope you guys can help.

I have a studio and make movies on Mini DV and I want to add AC3 files to the finished products,DVD.
I use Vegas to capture the tapes, edit them and at this time create the six channels of audio for the whole film.
At this point I can see and hear how the finished product will be, surround sound and all as I have it all set up in the studio.

I then make an AC3 file from the six audio tracks
Then I feed the edited movie back into the camera, with no losses but with only a Stereo soundtrack mixed down on the desk from the six channels.

I use a Philips DVD Recorder on HQ setting feeding the new edited tape via Firewire to get VOB files as I cant seem to match the quality using software. So now I have VOBS with stereo sound which can be the end of the process in some cases.

Is there a program that will let me open the VOB file/s off the Philips disc and let me add the AC3 file I have created and preview them in real time to check sync etc. and then add them together to make a compliant file for burning to DVD. I can get great results on DVD backups using ReEmpeg but it doesnt seem to work as well with Mini DV Avi Files, hence the use of the recorder.

Thats it . any ideas or alternate ways of getting the result.Big Thanks in Anticipation

probably your best bet is to download the demos for tmpgenc and CCE and see how they are on your DV avi, then buy one, that would save you a lot of hassle, but you'd have to use a proper authoring program, not rely on your DVD Recorder ;)

the other way is to copy the vobs onto the hdd, and replace the 2ch stream with the 6ch stream, but i dunno how, maybe ifoedit might help you there.
