Best Program for encoding

Hi there,
Are there any opinions about the "easy-to-use" programs like "EasyDiVx" or DVDx2(which encodes in mpeg2 I understand). Do they produce the same quality?

I´m asking because I get a lot of questions from friends who want to rip dvds. I personally use gordian knot/ virtual dub and the whole rest of the stuff which is quite difficult to explain to rookies.

Infos are appreciated - would save me a lot of time explaining

Sorry to start off on a bad foot, but asking "whats the best?" type questions is against the forum rules...(its rule #12).

Honestly, your best bet is to try some different alternatives yourself, use the search button to find out about different apps you've heard of etc.

programs like xmpeg & vidomi make things simple for users (if DivX5 encoding is what your after (which I assume because this is the DivX5 forum ;) ).
