I'm at the point now where i can afford one but in this day and age I don't like the idea of buy the same pioneer drive i could have purchased 6 months ago. Anyone heard any thing?
Thanks, Ian.

The Pioneer A05 is almost out, or already is.... and it's the fastest DVD-R drive. 4x I think.

How long do people reckon it'll take before we get fast drives (say 8x) for about £100?

A year or so?

By Christmas there will be 3 different versions of Pioneer drives on the shelves.

My prediction is DVR-A03 149.99 US
DVR-A04 199.99 US
DVR-A05 249.99 US

Then in Janruary, with Pioneer, Sony, Nec, HP all in the dvd burner market, prices will continue to fall. Then how about Plextor, Lite-On, Yamaha, LG and the other cd writer manufacturers who will be adding to the glut of burners.

By next christmas the market will be flooded!

I'm definately waiting for the faster drives too. My poor old 4x/2x/24x HP CD-RW drive, which is about to be 3 years old in December, needs a replacement. (Hey, it still works quite well). But I would rather invest my money on a DVD-R drive than just a faster CD-RW drive. B/c these 650-700MB CD-R's are REALLY starting to pile up!!

My choices are either:

--Pioneer DVR-A05
or the
--Sony Combo DRU500A (DVD+R/DVD+RW/DVD-R/DVD-RW/CD-R/CD-RW)
