Image sharpening

I've been given the wonderful job of touching up some wedding photographs that the buyer feels are not sharp enough. I've been playing in Photoshop 5.02 for the last hour or so but can't get a result that I'd spend money on myself.

Does anyone have any ideas as to filters or programs that could give some improvement? I've attached a sample of one of the blurry photos.

For work in photoshop check out the Luminous Landscape (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/). They have great theory articles/tutorials.

I think Two-Pass Sharpening in Photoshop (http://www.creativepro.com/story/feature/12189.html) might do the trick.

And There is a great free program that a lot of enthusiasts (remind you of something? Hint..Xvid :sly: ) use for some great effects called The GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/). Here is a guide (http://jgo.local.net/GimpGuide/) to get started.

And last but not least here is an excellent site that describes how to do "Smart" Sharpening with The GIMP (http://cs.uhh.hawaii.edu/~jeschke/photography/articles/gimp/SmartSharpening/).

Blind deconvolution helps a bit (after you crop off the edges) but I couldn't guess a really good point spread function. I think you're hosed. See attachment.

Download Autodeblur from Autoquant.
It works perfect!!
I have some examples at Vdub's forum.
You also can try restoreinpaint (sourceforge).
I always get the best results applying this kind of process only to luma channel.
