I have ripped a DVD (for back up/fair use purposes of course), and everything appears very skinny, which is presumably because of the widescreen ratio. When I put it through TMPGEnc at 16:9, everything appears normal ratio. Is there some way, WITHOUT reencoding, (some simple way) to either change view settings in windows media player or change the widescreen aspect of the divx avi. Does this always happen if the DVD is widescreen that is being ripped???

In BSPlayer you can change the aspect ratio as you want.
For example, Shift+2 gives you 16:9

No. If you use the proper encoding settings, your rip will look fine

^^ Maybe a dumb answer, but i don't get your point :o
