RadLight 4

Hello @ all,

As the work on the new RadLight 4 core is progressing fast we have to move forward with the actual "player" as well. We plan to start working on it soon, but in order to do this we need a compiled list of features we should focus on.

We would appreciate if you - DivX (or maybe XviD? :D community, could post your requests on our forum. We will evaluate them and eventually implement in the new RL4.

One more thing. RadLight 4 will support OpenAPI third-party modules. Cool idea but we would need to know what modules would you like to have and use. Feel free to use your imagination :D

lol...i dun see how helpware is different from adware or spyware or whatever ware you want to call it. bottom line is, end users do not like something poking around their system and send info out.

Poking around and sending out info? Well, you are certainly not speaking about RadLight's helpware. Maybe some other so called "spyware" does it but our helpware definitely does not.

Anyway, thanks to the helpware our users could use $20-worth RadLight Special Edition for FREE, we can pay our hosting fees and further support the developement. Thanks to the earnings from our helpware we are able to invest substantial amounts of $$$ into the developement (we purchase various graphics cards, sound cards, 5.1 repro setups) making sure everything works fine on different setups thus making our software much better.

Is there something bad about it?

when i attempted to create a japanese language module for radlight 3, some of the text came out messed up. is that going to be fixed?

You need to set the proper charset. Look for "Charset.txt" in the Language directory for more info.

People, there are free players out there which stomp others (with spyware / helpware *rotfl*) into groun. Make sure you look at the free alternatives first before supporting some greedy "companies".

The fact remains that there's no free Radlight installation since it's bundled with SaveNow and won't work without it. What ever you call SaveNow the fact remains that it is an application that transmitts information TO someone else without user intervention and this information is then used to send me not-asked-for-'offers' and you are getting paid for this.

Now, we don't want this to turn into a flaming-thread so keep focus on the player.

Wrong, totaly wrong. RadLight works without SaveNow installed.

Show me the proof. You just heard this somewhere, did you? Not asked for offers? No way, you agreed to be shown ads during the installation. Try to read sometimes ...

Hi first of all, let me introduce:
My name is Christian Hackbart, i just use DAvengers login for this posting,
because otherwise i had to wait 5 days until i'm allowed to answer.
For those who do not know me, i'm part of radlight since around one and
a half year.
After the 3.03 version was finished i offered a fast server for making it
public. Unluckily the traffic in the first 2 weeks was soo huge that our
free amount was broken and the first bills made me bankrupt -
we (I) had to pay more than 600 Euro.
This problem forced us to search a way out of this problem, without claiming
money from our users.
So we (DAvenger) made a contract with Whenu and from this time we bundled
Radlight with SaveNow.
Unluckily we all know Adaware, and it came that they also added our only
income into their blacklist. There was no way, to get an statement about
their reasons for adding software to their blacklist, so RadScorpion decided
to add an Adaware Removing function into the installer.
His main idea was to let people think about the situation, because it was
the
same way AdAware is working. Maybe it is not the best choice to advise a
problem, but it was the fastest way.
Unluckily the most people are too lazy (some of them are surely also too
stupid) to think about our reasons, but try to keep in mind what would
happen
with radio or tv stations, without any commercials?
The problem is the same, is'nt it?

I personally learned from this experience, and my way out was to stop all
freeware projects.

Hey, even you all use Divx. As you maybe recognized divx is bundled with
gator to collect at least a bit money. In the past i've seen a couple of
faqs, howto's even in german magazines, which are describing how to remove
their ads without harming the installation.
This is the same like software piracy and do not play it down!
Lavasoft is fueling the fear of their users, and the worst is they even are
making profit with this. Adaware is one of the top products at element5.

I'll admit I haven't tried, it was enough for me to read this (http://www.radlight.net/helpware.htm) on your homepage.

Especially the Note:
Note: if you want to uninstall Save! which comes with ad supported version of RadLight SE you will have to remove RadLight at first. Save! will be uninstalled automatically after ALL Save! supported programs have been removed.

But perhaps I got it wrong????

Standard version of RadLight still offers the best from the multimedia world. Despite it is no longer updated it is still a very good quality choice proved by time. However, It doesn't contain so many advanced features as the Pro version.

Although there is no direct mention that it does work without SaveNow I trust DAvenger on his word.
