strange color in playback w/ media player

You'll have to forgive my lack of encoding knowledge, but SOME (not all) XviD encodes look blocky and slighly green when played in windows media player, but they're fine when played in virtualdub. Any idea how I can get the files to work correctly in media player? Or should I use some other alternative for viewing XviD movies? Thanks...

use a resolution that is a multiple of 32

and use DX50

I still experience some problems with Nic's decoder...in particular when b-frames are used, the left edge of the video shows some distortion.

The DIVX decoder has some serious troubles with decoding xvid, resulting in the problems described... I for one would say that using XVID fourCC is the best way.
Maybe you're using an old xvid build - fetch a more recent one - and fetch the sandalone decoder installer from my site. Maybe this solves your issues.
If you're using ffdshow change the xvid decoding options(decode xvid/use xvid, play around with them).

In the "Codecs" tab of ffdshow latest alpha, only "XVID" checked ("Use XviD" unchecked), and choosing "IDCT -> XviD" in the "Miscallenous" tab works great for me without the slightest problem!

Well lets see what have I tried. I do have ffdshow installed, and I've played around with different options, ones involving "decode using xvid" and "idct -> xvid". I'm using Koepi's latest build, and I have the standalone decoder installed (although I'm really not sure what that last proggy does). In the XviD Fourcc, the particular file that is messing up is set to xvid. The picture of this file still looks the same as it did before.

Why does it like crappy in Media Player but perfect in Virtualdub? What does virtualdub do different?

VDub doesn't use DirectShow Filters like media player does, it uses Video for Windows (OLD).

However, you should just try newest ffdshow (and check several iDCT routines) or download Nic's directshow filter, which just has to decode with the same results as xvid.dll.
