OK, I've ran into another major problem, so it seems.

if you have seen my first post a while back, I'm still doing the same thing. basically, I'm re-encoding my second set of foreign vcd episodes into svcd.

bacause the original source was very noisy. encoding with TMPG give me terrible results, so I decided to use CCE with avisynth as the frameserver. that way, I can use convolution3d to do temporal and spatial blurring to remove some of the noise, and then use the sharpen filter to gain back some of the details lost during the bluring process.

the result was actually great. my new svcd is a lot better than even the original vcd because it's less noisy. I did lose some of the details, it's not that terrible. and CCE preserves the color much better than TMPG too.

but my problem is, my new svcd is very choppy during the playback. there are noticible pauses once in a while which is very annoy. I've searched through the forum and the only thing I can find is that if you go above the max bitrate allowed for svcd, it will be choppy on some players. however, my max bitrate is only 1500, and with 192 sound, it's way below the max allowable bitrate. what do you guys think could be the problem? the original source is not choppy at all. how can I eliminate the pauses?

ok, ignore all the garbage I posted above.

after some more observation today, I realized that the encoding process wasn't at fault here. the mpg generated by CCE without sound is flawless. but after I multiplexed using bbMPEG, the choppiness started to appear. so it seems that the multiplexing process is the problem here. has anyone experienced this before? is it some setting that I'm not aware of? I also tried TMPGEnc, but that doesn't solve the problem either. and I hear that there's sync problem multiplexing mpeg2 movies using TMPGEnc.

oh yeah, my movie is vbr, 500-1500k range, with 192k sound track. so the total bitrate is way below the max allowable bitrate by standard svcd.

someone please help. :)

I think we would need more information. Such as what DVD player you are trying to use to play, but I have found in the the past with some DVD players and CCE that you need to downsample the audio for it to play correctly. Perhaps this might help.

I have three ideas that might help you (but not sure) :

- you said your source if a "foreign" VCD. So don't you have NTSC/PAL conversion problem ? The chopy playback might appear only because of the different framerate.

- it is popular that CCE isn't that great for audio conversion, it causes many problems. Why don't you try encoding video with CCE and audio with TMPGEnc or TooLame ? Then multiplex in bbmpeg

- you could also try to multiplex with the MPEG Tools from TMPGEnc instead of bbmpeg.

Hope this helps

Did you get any PTS/DTS Under-runs while multiplexing in BBMpeg?
Try setting the "forced mux rate"to 0 under "programme stream settings".

You could also try using the muxer that is part of TSCV.it is better than BBMpeg at multiplexing non standard svcd.
