m2v from vob's

If some one has all the vob's from a dvd ripped to there hard drive what is the easiest way to get the main move out so you could encode it to svcd.

Could you just extract it to an m2v and extract the ac3 file out of the vob's?

I pretty much do all my dvd to dvd-r one way and this friend just has the vob's from the whole movie on his HDD. He wants just the main movie so he can encode to svcd.

Hy, you could use dvd2avi for the job. Make a m2v and Ac3 files.

are you sure that dvd2avi create m2v files ? i'd like to know why

my answer would be to use vobedit to get the mv2 from the vob
and to use dvd2avi to get the ac3 file(s)
vobedit demux ac3 as well but the ac3 files (if there are several tracks) don't have the same bytes size, so i prefer dvd2avi for this part

Well, dvd2avi don´t give you a direct m2v file. You have that file after used CCE.

Use DVD Decrypter to extract m2v and ac3 directly from vob ;)

I don't think DVD Decrypter would work, because it uses ASPI to rip, & as such wouldn't work from a HD (I could be completely wrong about this, I havent been keeping my eye on DVD Dec recently, so my apologies if I am).

Im old style ( ;) ) So I use VStrip commandline for things like this.

if its a single vob try:

vstrip single.vob -!doSingle.m2v 0xe0

& that will do it, if its a bunch of VTS_01_1.vobs etc, then youll need to make a .lst file. (which is a text file with a list of name of the vobs)
i.e. :-
VTS_01_1.vob
VTS_01_2.vob
etc

Hope that helps, there are probably easier ways of doing it, but thats what I use :)

You can do the same to get the ac3:-
vstrip vobs.lst -!doSingle.ac3 0xbd 0x80
(0x80 being the first ac3 audio stream, use 0x81 for the next etc, ifo parse the ifo file using VStrip vobs.lst -i theifofile.ifo to find the right audio stream)

I've tried before and it worked :) Just go to streaming tab and select only a stream you want and demux it.

BTW, I know that vStrip is very reliable. I used it before ;) but it's slower than other new rippers. I still keep it though, just in case.

:) I know DVD Decrypter has great stream demux support :) , but I didn't know if it could now decrypt from HardDrives...

My apology :o I forgot that it's about ripping from HD, not DVD. In that case, DVD Decrypter doesn't work. We need our classic vStrip anyway.

You don't need to extract m2v from vob in order to encode into SVCD. Just use DVD2AVI, frameserve with AviSynth, then use VFAPI (if you can't import avs file directly into CCE or whatever MPEG-2 Encoder you have), then encode it. If you want a quality audio stream, just transcode ac3 with BeSweet then mux m2v and mp2 later.

Well, unless you want to make an ISO out of the files, mount it with DAEMON Tools and then rip?!?
