View Full Version : Virtual Dub crashes with latest Nic/Koepi binaries & hinted ME

Okay, firstly apologies if this thread is duplicating something elsewhere.

Secondly, the 'stable' built on Koepi's page (04/10/2002) seems to work perfectly.

However, when using Koepi's 12/10/2002 or Nic's 13/10/2002 binaries with hinted ME Virtual Dub crashes at the beginning of the second pass. This seems to happen regardless of the other options selected for the second pass, including lumi masking.

The first pass was performed with motion precision 5, and lumi masking on.

Has anyone else had this problem? Or is it just me doing something stoopid again  ?

Thanks,

sffubs

I encountered the same problem. I thought that was related to switching on b-frames in second pass but maybe the MV code is broken in that builds. Anyway, if you don't feel like an alpha tester I think you're better of using the stable release. It offers very good quality and is reasonably stable. You don't get QPel and B-frames though.

First of all, hinted ME doesn't work with B-frames - and will not work as long as P/B selection in second pass is different then in the first - P/B decision should be copied from first pass but isn't, so I won't fix hinted ME for it as it won't work anyway.

From what you say I see you're not using B-frames at all. I know, it doesn't work either and the problem came out after I added qpel support for hinted ME search. I have no idea what I've done wrong... Anyway, I'll look into it - I should be able to fix it by tommorow :)

Don't use ME hint, don't use lumi masking. This features are often buggy at adding of newest features.
