View Full Version : Can Rip IFO Mode to Under 4.7Gb But How can I Burn to DVD???

I have recently got a few DVDs in, having giving up on the whole idea of trying to RIP a DVD9 to DVD5 (Coz it seems next to impossible to do and extremely time consuming) I only bother copying DVDs that can fit on the DVD5 format. I have come across some DVD5 films and just did an ISO Read and Write on those so everything worked fine on the copy. But here is my Query.....

I have a film for example (Monsters Inc) and the actual film itself is about 4.5Gb. So I can rip that film in IFO mode. But what I want to know is how do I now get that IFO ripped files onto a DVD-R which I can view on a standalone player. Do I have to use those IFOEDIT programs etc as it is that program which put me off attempting DVD9-DVD5 copies. It seems very "ropey" using that program to get things to work, but im sure thats just my inexperience with it. Is there an easy solution to what I want to do???

All help will be much appreciated....
Thank you.

DVDecrypter can both read and write in ISO mode, so it sounds like you could do what you want by using that to burn your DVD5. There a good, recent guide for it in the "Guides" section under DVD stuff.

Yes but the problem with that is that the ISO mode doesnt work on 2 layer dics and the whole DVD is about 7.3Gb. Thats what ISO mode would try and rip, whereas IFO mode can just rip the film for me which is all I want, that is about 4.5Gbs or thereabouts, but I dont know how to get the film back to a a DVD-R having not used ISO mode??
Because the files are too large for ISO mode!

Sorry, but there's no 'easy' way to do it. If it was that easy, we wouldn't need this forum.

Once you rip the VOB and IFO files to your hard disk, you need to process them with IfoEdit (VOB Extras), then GET VTS Sectors, then build an image. That will create an ISO/IMG file you can burn with Nero or Prassi.

The full steps for taking the VOB/IFO files and processing them is included in one of the guides posted on Doom9.

Ok well thanks for that, I had a quick look at the guides again
and I will try it out again and see how I get on. I will download the new IFOEDIT and also get the IMGTOOLS.dll. Will update with the results.

Thanks,

Ian.

there is an easy way :
Rip main movie vtsX_1.vob to vtsX_6 or 7 (not 0 wich is menus)
Put that in a directory
Launch Ifoedit and click on creates IFO, then point to the right directory.
once done, click on Get VTS Sector.

You have a standalone compatible set of files, but no menus, chapters but not the ones from the original DVD (I think it's a chapter every 10 minutes or something like that), no description of audio and subtitles (everyone will be unknown language). More concerning subtitles, it will be the wrong color.

If you want to do a bit more, you can then use ifoedit to edit languages and sub to set the correct language description, and use ifoupdate to correct subtitles color.

But, please, if you have more question on how to use ifoedit or ifoupdate, ask in the right channel.

Then burn, generating an image from Ifoedit and burning with DVD decrypter.

Thanks a lot for that Klona,

I will try that method.
I dont care about subtitles or menus or anything like that.
All I want is the film and sound to play on a settop box.

Thanks again,

ianjf.

Hi,

I went to try those methods out on Monsters Inc but realised that
the film files are actually 4.6 billion bytes or there abouts which
is actually just over the 4.7Gb limit that the DVD-Rs can fit.
So I dont think I will bother with the alternative methods which I have left. But thanks again and I will try that method as soon as I find film files which can fit on a DVD5.
