The problem is that DVD3SVCD is not reading from my DVD ROM Drive. When I copied the Divx avi file to my hard disk everything works ok but when I open the file from the DVD ROM nothing happens.
I downloaded the XP-ASPI files from the DVD2SVCD home page but the problem is NOT solved. Please Help.
Hardware: Compaq EVO 1000v laptop Pentium 4 1.9 Mhz, 256 MB RAM, Win XP Proffessional, DVD ROM drive.

you need to read the faq...try installing winDVD or powerDVD to authenticate the DVD before opening it with dvd2svcd

I am trying to convert a DivX movie to SVCD.

I think this is because on CD-ROM all files are read-only. What's your problem, isn't the 'Go!'-Button enabled? If yes, the read-only is your problem. I don't know if this is still in the newest RelaseCanditate-Version, but it was in older ones.

i would highly recommend copying to the hd first instead of doing it straight from the cd...this is a lot of extra work on the cdrom and kind of unnecessary

By copying to HD the program works but what will happen when I have to rip a DVD??!! On Win98 there is no problem on my desktop.
Somehow it is not reading from my DVD ROM. I also installed the latest ASPI layer from Adaptec. The GO button is not enabled after I select the file!!
Please someone help.

have you tried inserting a dvd? or is it just speculation?

As of now speculation as I don't have a DVD with me. But if it is not reading from the DVD ROM then the speculation can become a fact.

The Problem is exactly as stated. With DVD2SVCD the files being converted need to have write access. I don't know why, but they do.
What DVD2SVCD does is copy and un-encrypt the VOB files onto the HD first. This also has the affect of giving the VOB files of the DVD write access. You should have no issues.

 I think the problem is the hardware too........
Have you ever flash your bios?? I have a IBM Think pad at work and after upgrading the CD Rom to a
DVD Rom I run into some problems wuth the DVD not playing at all the movies.
I got the newest bios and flash them and guess what? My problem was solved!:sly:
I can't grasp the idea of using a Laptop to ripp, but thats just me......

especially with a 1.9 MHz laptop! :) j/k...i wouldn't recommend using your lappy to do rips either...dvd2svcd is probably one of them most cpu/resource intensive process you can run...laptop hardware is not made for such huge processes, it's made for portability...if you want to get the most out of your laptop i would recommend using dvd2svcd on a home box

Hey a typo Pentium 4 does not come at 1.9 Mhtz!!! it is 1.9Ghtz. Why a laptop as the DVD comes as a one day rental and my house is not that big to have a Desktop setup. (In Mumbai the price is around US$130 a Sq. Feet!).
If there is a "Read Only" problem then how come it is working on my Desktop having Win98 and a Plextor CD R/W drive?
