I couldn't burn any dvd's with Nero5.5.9.0 so I downloaded Recordnow 4.1 and unchecked "recognize VIDEO_TS". That worked and the disk will play in the PC but not in my JVC XV-523GD (DVD+R compatible). Any suggestions?

I use that very same software to burn with and always make an image file first. I have read on numerous forum threads here that this step decreases the chance of making a mistake and also increases compatability

I've tried burning the image file with image tools and dvddecrypter, but my JVC stand alone player won't play it. Any special set up for burning image with Recordnow Max?

Burning an image file with RecordNow Max is pretty easy - just select File->New Job->Global Image or Other Image, then select Edit->Add File and browse for your image file, then burn away! (At least that's how you do it in version 3.03, I assume version 4 is similar?) I've found from personal experience that this method really does improve your chances for getting a playable disc.
By the way - if you use RecordNow in Data Disc mode and uncheck the "Recognize VIDEO_TS" box (as you mentioned), the resulting disc will probably not play on any standalone. Have you tried leaving the box checked? This usually works. Unfortunately, RecordNow apparently has some bugs when it tries to deal with the VIDEO_TS file structure of some DVD titles, which is why the disc image method is generally more reliable.
