This question doesn't exactly belong in this forum but it seems to be the best fit. And maybe my searching skills need improvement because I couldn't locate information on the topic.

Anyway, DVD-RWs in particular get dust smudges etc on the recording surface even though I'm fairly careful and I'm wondering if the cleaning method recommended for pressed DVDs should be used for DVD-Rs and DVD-RWs. The method to which I refer is 'use a damp lint free cloth, making lines out from the centre".

Thanks :)

Yes, I think the same method should apply. My experience is that my cheap DVD-Rs have a less resistant surface than my Pioneer DVD-RW, but still after 50 burns with the DVD-RW it eventually get some dirt and scratches and play-back may skip sometimes. A cloth for cleaning eye-glasses should do the trick.

I use a very nice piece of pure cotten velvet, its supper soft and doesn't leave any scratches on the dvdr disc. and you dont have to use any cleaning fluids. But make sure you get the nice heavy weight soft stuff thats 100% cotton. the cheap stuff will leave very fine lines, it has nylon in it.

Thank you for the responses :)

I'll see if I can get ahold of one of those types of material ;)

if it's just dust and not fingerprints then i recommend compressed air (in a can like "dust-off"). it's also worth to blow the tray of the dvd drive clean once in a while. i've been doing this from the very beginning and found it very effective.
