Just wanted to tell all you Xvid fans out there, that I just tried it and its much better than Divx 5. First try, no hassles. I will definetly be encoding my movies in Xvid from now on.

Your positive feedback will certainly have given a nice & warm feeling to the people working on the codec :) and encourage other 'newbies' to use default settings for their first tries with XviD. Thanks.

"much better" is something of an understatement.

yaeh! think so. too. having used sbc since the beginning for most of the time and later only divx5 cause it's much faster.
but xvid is better cause you can change things to your needs more in detail (like good old sbc (btw thx nando))...
but first i've to collect some experience i think...

well release groups are starting to use Xvid much more... this is probably the best affirmation you're going to get that it's considered "best", at least for some situation.

@Smiff: Release Groups are not "allowed" to use DivX5 according to their rulez.

@MaTTer: i meant DivX5 being faster than DivX3 (at least on my poor P3 (->2nd Pass)).

Simply the fact that you cannot make divx5 use the correct colors is reason enough never to even install it.
Try encoding something with SBC and divx5 and comparing the color in any random frame to see what I mean. It's hideous.

Sorry, but in my experiences divx3 alters the colors. Divx4/5 and xvid keep it quite close(maybe identical) to the original.

Like I said, try closely comparing them.

edit: of course, I was viewing the divx5 stuff with the divx5 decoder.
