I have recently purchased a Compaq EVO1000V laptop (Pentium 4 1.9Mhz 256 MB RAM)with Windows XP Proffessional and DVD2SVCD is not running on it. When I select a Divx avi file the GO button is NOT enabled, no movie length comes and the aspect ratio is also blank.

I am able to see the movie in Media player and even able to play an Avisynth AVS file in the media player. What could be the problem? Please help.

I assume you read the avi hints tab, guides, etc.

I just had the same issue with another issue, until we found out that the avi file in question was made with divx 5, when he installed that everything worked perfectly.

Always try loading the AVI using VirtualDub, it'll usually give you good error messages where you can see what went wrong.

What's the Error message ?

Are you sure that in the "Misc" tab you choose "AVI" instead of "DVD" under "Input file type" ?

I sometimes had the same problem, and the solution was to set the file to read&write. I remember there was a problem with 'read only' files.

Was there ever a resolution to this problem? I too am facing the same issues. I have set the file to read/write, and I just downloaded Divx 5.02. No dice. And this is a file I capped myself from DISH -> Hollywood -> Windows Movie Maker.

Sorry, but I am not able to find a solution to the problem as "All other programs" are working without any problem. There is something wrong in DVD2SVCD only. After selecting the DivX AVI file from the cd "nothing happens". But the same file if I copy to the HD, everything is OK. I have not tried the latest version but will inform of my findings.

I remember an issue not all that long ago with an AVI created by Premiere. In the end no solution was found other then to convert it to another format and then it did work.

I am no expert on AVI's, but I would suggest 2 things. First is do a search on the forum for AVIcodec or AVICod. It's a freeware program that will examine the AVI and see if you have the proper codec installed. Some codecs will read other formats, but not truly be the correct one so this might be why it's acting wierd.

The second is to do a conversion. If it's Divx 5 convert it to Divx 4, etc...

The problem here IS NOT with DVD2SVCD. Consider the impossible position this program is put into. Do you have any idea how many AVI codecs are out there? Combine that with the many, many audio possibilities. Now try to make a program that will work with all of them without an issue. It's just about impossible. Just be glad it works as well as it does.

Also consider that it does not work with OGG AVI files, even if you have the codec installed. If the video is Divx and the audio is ogg it will not work period. You need to do what I have done and demux the audio, convert it to wav and remux it back into an AVI.

Please run that AviCodec and tell us what it says the video and audio sections are.

I just searched and found the link. It's here:

@MarlRB

Probably U have not understood my problem properly. My problem is

When the DivX movie (Any, not a particular one) is on a CD and I put it in my DVD ROM drive and select it as the source for conversion,DVD2SVCD will not act after selecting it.

BUT if I copy the movie to my HD and select it as the source for conversion in DVD2SVCD it works perfectly. (I don't change any read only flag)

This problem is NOT occuring in any other programs like virtualDub DivX Player, Media Player etc. Even by making an AVS file where the source is the DVD ROM Drive, works.

So tell me where the problem lies? DVD2SVCD is not able to read it from the DVD ROM Drive. I have installed the ASPI layer as suggested.

The problem is very peculiar to my laptop as if u see my earlier post I have said that it worked on my Desktop with Win98 and Plextor CD RW drive.

There is nothing against the program! It a is a Very Good program but the problem I am facing logically points a finger at it and I am looking for a solution.

Ok yes I did misunderstand your problem since nowhere did you mention the fact that the files are on a CD in your first post and this isn't a problem since you figured out the solution.

Remember CD drives are NOT R/W so then the R/W flag cannot be set and thus DVD2SVCD won't work. You must copy the file over to the hard drive. I know of no other way. DVD2SVCD needs write access to the file for it to work. I don't know why, but this has always been the case.

The solution is simply to copy the file to the hard dive before you convert it. There is no other way.

These other programs that work do not need write access so they work fine.
