Hi

I been trying to find out what would be the best codec to use ripping dvds but it seems like every webpage i look they have different results for the codec tests. I want to know what would be the best codec for making 3 hour movie with AC3 sound in 3CD rip. I ripped English Patient in 3CD with AC3 in Divx 3.11a SBC and the result were perfect except that some low motion scenes where is grey wall in the background i get lots of blocks, then i tried the same with 2CD but the results were awfull. I also tried to do same rip with divx 5.02 but i think the quality wasnt as good as it was with 3.11. So what codec would be the best to use? I dont care that much how good that codec is to compress movies, just that it would be in good quality.

I remember a moderator said once in other thread that 'what's the best' type of question is not very welcome here because the tools are provided so users can use and give feedback for future improvements. You can say this has advantage over that in certain aspects, but what's 'best' is very relative - therefore saying one codec is better than the other is unfair IMHO. Besides, there's already a good codecs comparison done by doom9 himself in the website.

It's very subjective question  It depends on how good quality and output you want. Best codec for some people, it may not be suitable to you at all (different purpose). And all codecs available at the present have a chance to be improved. So, you better try as many as you can until you find what you want.
