Hi All,

Most of the original DVD's you want to backup are in 16:9 mode.

If you look at the movie on a 4:3 screen, then you see black bars at the top and bottom of the picture.
If you look at the movie on a 16:9 screen (wode screen), then the picture is appearing in 16:9 mode.

I'd like to know how to configure DVDmaestro so that it keeps those black bars at the top and bottom of the screen (on a 4:3 TV) -> so that it keeps the original picture format.

This way, the DVD could be read in both 4:3 and 16:9 formats.
So far, the picture is enlarged vertically on the 4:3 TV ...
I think DVD maestro is modifying the picture format ?!?

Can someone help, here ?

Thanks !!

in the timeline window, at the bottom there is the fps, and also the aspect ratio, select 16:9 letterbox or if the movie has pan/scan info, choose 16:9 LB/PS

Thank you for the information ...
I've tried already the 16:9 option, but my picture is not correctly formatted in "16:9" mode.
My picture is on the other hand ok when selecting the "plein" mode on my TV.

... I do not really know what difference there is between the 16:9 and plein mode on my SONY TV ...

On a 4:3 TV, the picture is still vertically enlarged.

My question is :

- For a 4:3 TV, how to keep the aspect ratio ?
- How to keep correct aspect for both TV's (4:3 and 16:9), with blac bars on top and bottom
- By the way, what is that Pan and Scan parameter ??

Thanks !

Great !!!
So I guess the best thing to do when backuping a DVD is rip it, then note the aspect ratis Ifo edit give us, and enter the same parameters in the DVD authoring software, right ?

Thanks !!

It works fine for me, I use 16:9 LB (letterbox) (don't dabble with material that is 16:9 pan and scan) - my dvd player automatically adds the black bars when viewing on my 4:3 tv.. ofcourse it can be set with IfoEdit as well, but it should work from the start.

In my case, when selecting 16:9 letterboxed, The picture is fine in widescreen, but is vertically enlarged in 4:3 mode -> Noi blak bars are added ... any idea why ?

I have a SONY TV, and a SONE DAVS800 Home theatre ...
I'm using Smartripper and DVD maestro.

Thanks !

check your dvd player settings, it is probably setup for a 16:9 tv.
