Rumour has it that 1.31 firmware enabled 2X burning on Ritek's, 1.32 disabled it again, and 1.33 restores it.
But I've tried 1.30 (on the drive when I bought it), 1.32 and 1.33 and none have given me 2x with the Ritek's I have.
So....can anyone confirm that they've actually achieved 2x on Ritek's with the official 1.33 software?
Thanks in advance

...before you nag me, I have indeed read the "Sticky Pioneer FAQ" which I interpret as saying that 2x burning for Riteks was removed in 1.32 and has not subsequently been restored. However the main Doom9 news page for 10/13 suggests 2X is back with 1.33 ... which is why I'm now a bit confused.

Not sure about 1.33 but I can certainly confirm 2x on Ritek G03 using 1.31 if that helps..

Ritek G03 is NOT supported with firmware 1.33 for x2 burning

Nope :(
It won't burn Ritek with double speed ! Guess they want to keep them out of the market 'cause they're cheap and good.

Coby, there is only one media that's 2X re-enabled with v1.33 according to Pioneer's official statement, and that's CMC.

Thanks guys...has anyone any comment on the pros or cons of the hacked 1.33 firmware? Worth a try?

I currently have the hacked firmware installed. I've got a bunch of pretty cheap media and tried burning one at 2x. Kind of weird performance. The drive buffer indicator in Nero was jumping around all weird during the burn like it would fill, then burn that segment, then fill again, etc. Also, it took 40 minutes to burn a not-even-full DVD, seeming like even though I selected 2x, it really only burned with 1x performance. Now this could be simply because the media can't handle it, or because of Nero perhaps, but I (as my recent post mentions) am wanting to go back to the official firmware. Don't know if I'll have any problems burning at 1x, but it didn't seem to work well for me. I think I'll be sticking with TDK from now on.
P.S. The burned disc did play back in my set top player, by the way.

I only have one question for you Fletch, What software are you using to burn at 2X, I would like to use dvdecrypter but have not gotten a chance to try it yet.

Is 1.4 an official Pioneer firmware, as I dont see it on their site anywhere?

There's now a 1.40 firmware hacked to restore 2x just for Riteks (i.e. not the 2forall version) ...and it's working great for me!

I rust read the previous two posts more carefully. Yes there IS an official 1.04 on at least some Pioneer sites. And no it does NOT burn Riteks at 2X (at least on my Pioneer A104) - you need the hacked version for that.

I just downgraded my A04 firmware to 1.31 and burned a movie at 2x on a RITEK DVD-R. Although it played fine from beginning to end, chapter jumping took some time for my (Sony) DVD player. For instance, if I was watching chapter 1, then tried to jump to 8, the screen would freeze for 20-30 seconds, apparently trying to track it. The same movie burned at 1x played with no problems.
Anyone else experience this? I was wondering if 1.40 ritekonly_2x is better?

I am using firmware 1.31 and the new version of dvdcrypter and have made seven good movies at 2x on my 104. Hope this helps
