How can I use OggMux to make an OGM out of an AVI which already has audio?

Do I have to demux the audio first with VDub? Will there be any quality loss?

Just take the avi as source and hit "save as".
That will put the whole avi and the sound into an OGM.
Unfortunately you won't be able to set language and stuff.

But you can do that by using graphedit.

So you could use mp3 instead of ogg this way if you wanted to?

You could do that all the time already, just change filetype selection in the soundfile-open-dialog to mp3.

I tried this long ago and just recently again: When the AVI had MP3 audio, the resulting OGM was not seekable, i.e. when trying to jump to a position (using the slider in WMP), the video would play without audio. Had to transmux the audio to Vorbis and remux it with OggMux to make it work.

Ok, I'm being wondering this question for a long time, and I hope you can answear my question! :D
So what is the main reason that you guys use .OGM rather than .AVI?
Then a question about OggMux: Is some difference if I use ChapterXtractor to get my chapter data instead of using the chapter data which I get with SmartRipper?

In the one case I refered to I had a 770MB AVI and wanted to burn it onto an XCD, but as XCDs have much less data protection than normal CD-Roms and AVI is very sensitive to minor errors (which supposedly OGM is not to be, maybe I should make a test one day), I decided to convert the AVI to OGM and then make it an XCD. For "day to day" ripping :-) I also choose OGM for the same reason: burning 796MB-OGMs as XCDs.

As for ChaptorXtractor vs SmartRipper - I just think ChaptorXtractor is more comfortable to use, but except for the "last chapter bug" fixed by ChaptorXtractor I haven't noticed any differences in the two formats (in terms of loading the chapter info into OggMux), but I might be wrong in some cases.

PS: To those involved in creating the XCD standard, please don't throw your coasters at me :) because of using the term "XCD" for what is actually just a Mode 2 (Form 1 I believe?) CD - ByTheWay: Is there a release date for the XCD-backup tool?
