I a making my second SVCD Rip from DVD Pal 16:9 (Wide Screen)
I make manual Avisynth script and encode in CCE 2.50
I know my DVD is 720x576 Ratio of 1.25
I know it displayed at 1024x576 Ratio of 1.77777777777.....8 that correspond to 16:9 Aspect Ratio
Okay now Resizing to SVCD wich is MPEG 2 Stream with DAR of 4:3 (1.25 Aspect Ratio)
SVCD Pal Resolution is 480x576 wich is 0.83333...... Aspect Ratio
The Player will stretch it to 768x576 wich is 1.3333.... Aspect Ratio

I am 99% sure all Above true but to What resolution should I resize ......?

I read on some guide to resize to 480x432 wich is 1.11111.... AR
and add borders (Black Bars) 72 up and 72 down

I wanna know Why and how this 1.11111 AR came and what is the explanation for this !!!!!!!!!
:confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused:

One day I take like you a calculator in my hands and began to calculate every resizing standart I met in the forums. I've used also the 54:59 pixel for PAL and 11:10 pixel for NTSC (the TV pixels are not square - this I remembered firmly). At the and I had a damned headache. Now I think my calculations were not correct, as most of my results wasn't aspect ratio or AR at all! So my suggestion is - forget it! Nobody I think will have enough patience to explain to you all this stuff. BTW, your last sentence: 480:432 plus 2X 72 borders is equal to 480:576 (432+72+72=576). Heh, therefore 1.111111=0.8333333...
Greetings.

not to mention that 768 x 432 (stretched out version of 480 x 432) = 1.777777 or 16 x 9 ;P

I've wrote a solution/guide for AR in NTSC format at following thread:

For PAL SVCD, the 480x576 will be stretched to 768x576 on TV.

Cause of the SVCD 4:3 DAR Flag
The Player straches 480x576 to 768x576
We have Pal DVD 720x576 with 16:9 Flag that will be streched to 1024x576 !!!
And because we wanna use ther max width we make this :
768:576 is DAR 4:3
What will give as a Aspect Ration of 16:9(=1.777...8) When width is 768

16:9=768:H (Height)
H=768x9:16
H=432
okay so our video should be resized to 480x432 , and again the player will stretch it to 768x432 (=16:9)
But SVCD Specs. say that stream for Pal should be 480x576
So 576-432=144
144:2=72
So We add borders or say it Letterbox the image with 72 pix. above
and 72 pix. under to be by SVCD Specs

I Consider the topic Closed. 10qs to A;l;l.

Just want to add that the rezising caclulations can easily be done with the freeware program FitCD (http://shh.dvdboard.de/)

It's "a must" in VCD/SVCD/DVD creation!

In another thred I've wrote about what the resizing actual happens in a dvd player and the TRUTH about aspect ratio:

(read the posts at the end of that thread, please)
