Help please, I have created a number of svcd's, and they all play fine on my pc using cyberlink dvd player.
I have just tried to play them on my alba dvd114 player, and the picture quality is superb, the only problem is no sound.
When I play vcd's there is sound any ideas!

1. Read the Q&A
2. Do a search
3. Post your logfile
4. Check vcdhelp.com to see if your dvd player properly supports svcd playback

Quote from VCDhelp.com on your player.

my first dvd player so im no expert
it plays svcds ok but it wont play the sound if it is encoded at 48k it must be 96k?? but the picture is good.

I would suggest trying 48 if you downsampled or 44.1 if you didn't. Seems some of these players won't play SVCD's correctly, but have no problem with VCD's.

Forgive me for being thick, but what do I do at 48 or 44.1.
On the audio tab audio downsample 48>-44.1 is already selected. Or do you mean the audio 1 bi rate.

You almost never need to downsample the audio, as most standalone DVD players will play 48khz audio properly. Not to mention it sounds better, and saves quite a bit of encoding time.

Try it with the downsample box checked and with the downsample box unchecked on the audio tab.
It seems like the fault is with the DVD player according to the guy at vcdhelp.com it won't work with what DVD2SVCD does, but it's worth trying the opposite of whatever you have already done on the downsample.

The solution may be more simple;)
How your standalone's audio is connected? Digital(optical or cox) or analog?
I'm pretty sure that your audio plays on analog audio output, but not on digital. Try connecting analog, and you will see...
If so, just open players menu and try changing digital audio settings. It will help.
On mine philips i can get digital output, when in audio menu i change digital output to PCM only. Strange, but fact.

@Blogas:
Why would vcds play then?

I do not know exactly why the things are going in such way. I'm not producing standalones and their firmware.
The fact is: philips 711 behaves itself in such a strange way (VCD - digital, and SVCD - analog) with older firmwares. I upgraded another standalone - Yamaha S520( which is also complete PHILIPS) with new PHILIPS firmare and all nonsences regarding SVCD dissapeared...
@ MATTrt : There is interesting information about your ALBA player on vcdhelp.com. Please read it

Thanks guys, for all your help. I think I may have the answer. Some in another forum suggested that the dvd player i have does not have a decoder in it and so wont play the audio.
cheers
