Wierd question for Pioneer A03 owners - backups not working?

Hi folks,
I've been backing up my discs for a while now - I'd use SmartRipper to back them up to disc, and then use Nero 5.5.8.0 to burn them to DVD-R. My problem is this; certain discs refuse to playback in my DVD player! (And these are straight copies of single layer discs, no transcoding). The discs will play fine in my PC, but not my player, and what's more annoying is that it's just certain discs - brand does not seem to affect the problem. It seems to occur more often with Columbia Tristar discs; the initial logo animation plays, then it locks up. Likewise, BBC discs do the same. Could it be some form of copy protection? In SmartRipper I always remove Macrovision and Region code; could this be it? Please help,

PS I'd imagine buring to a DVD-RW would help first as I could test it, but Nero doesn't support it. :confused: What do you guys use?

Since when? I almost always burn first to a DVD-RW to check my "trimming" actions.

If you look at the box that the DVR-A03 came in, you will see that it is indeed, a DVD-RW burner, and NERO will have absolutely no problem in burning a DVD-RW for you.

As for your other problem, are you ripping just "MOVIE" or are you using "FILES"? You are probably missing some file - as I remember, NERO 5580 will let you burn a non-complient DVD, while 5582 onward will not. My guess is that you are creating non-complient disks that the computer will ignore, but the settop cannot.

Nope don't have an ASUS mobo, have an iWill KA266. Oh, and I was using the backup option from SmartRipper. Wierd huh? Go figure... Any more ideas, please let me know,
