High bitrate mpeg2 vs. Huffyuv capture

I'm curious as to the difference in quality between capturing in mpeg2 w/ a high bitrate and I-frame only and capturing in Huffyuv. Most of my captures are done at 352x480, 10 Mbit/s VBR, 29.97 fps, I-frame only. Recently, I tried capping w/ Huffyuv, same frame size and fps. The only difference I could see looking at both types in VirtualDub is the Huffyuv seems to have more vibrant colors and a little sharper focus. I use a .d2v file frameserved with Avisynth to view my mpeg files. Both files use YUY2 colorspace, and I try to keep the picture setting the same.
What exactly is the difference between storing video in mpeg2 and storing in avi?

mpeg2 is lossy
huff isn't
it's not matter of avi itself,but more of a codec
used on capturing.....

Hmmn, then perhaps a better question is just how much does mpeg2 throw away?

That's like saying "how much does DivX or Xvid throw away"?
It all depends on the settings you use to control the encoding, what software you use to capture with, the quality of the encoding filters, etcetera.
There is no general answer to your question.

Except for one general answer: You'll definitely get best results using Huffyuv, because it's lossless. If filesize / processing time are not an issue, Huffyuv is the best solution.
