i have bought a dvd writer recently and i wondered if there is a simple way to copy svcd or vcd to dvd format.I read somewhere that dvdit is one option but where can i download the complete program ?????

You cannot just download it - You have to buy it!!!
And try reading some guides in the guides section and use the search button - you will find a lot of pretty intersting things over here.
