Anyone attempted to encode video and audio simultaneously?

Hi,

My typical Nandub encodes involve 2 steps: loading the original capture file (MJPEG video format, PCM audio format)and setting the video processing mode to full while audio is set to direct stream copy. After the video has been encoded, I load this resultant file back into Vdub, set video to direct stream copy and audio to full processing mode and encode the audio to MP3 to get the finished product.

I recently attempted to omit this last step by encoding both the video and audio at the same time in one step using Nandub.

Not surprisingly, the encode went ok but the audio and video are not in sync, even with the 'sync to audio' option checked off. Is this due to a lack of CPU power (have a 1.2 GHz Athlon) or is it just impossible to retain sync when encoding both at the same time instead of separately?

I don't know why, but there is a very big chance that audio will be out of sync when you encode both audio and video at the same time. That is why it is the general consensus to do both processes seperately.

Instead of encoding video with audio on direct stream copy, you can just as well put audio on "no audio". Even though direct stream copy should be quite fast, it might still save you some time. The original file will still have the audio in it anyway, no need to take it with you in the encoding process if you're not doing anything with it. Same goes for encoding audio with video on direct stream copy. Just save the (uncompressed) audio as a seperate file with the "Save WAV" setting in Nandub. Then use an external tool like Lame, BeSweet or HeadAC3he to encode the audio and NanDub to mux audio and video back together.
