error msg in multiple programms

Hi,
i just recently restarted to some dvd converting. and i am walking constantly into the same error msg.
which basically says.
can't read or open log file.
i get this error in programms such as.
dvdx, flaskmpeg, and xmpeg.
does anybody please a have clue where i go wrong?

Hi-

There are, unfortunately, many posts about the problem from others. It is frequently caused by having both DivX4 and DivX5 both installed, or by the DivX5 codec disappearing. The usual solutions proposed are to:
1. Uninstall the DivX4 codec if you have it and then reinstall the DivX5 codec.
2. Check that you actually have the DivX5 codec. Open VDub, and then go Video-Compression and check to see if it is among the codecs listed there. If not, then reinstall it.

Others have reported that it seems to come and go. It might be a good idea to check before encoding. And a search might turn up other solutions. Good Luck.

That error also comes up when you try to run a 2-pass 2nd pass without having run a 2-pass 1st pass first. That is, the codec can't find a logfile, because it hasn't been created yet, and shuts down. OR because you've forgot to add an extension after the logfile name. The codec doesn't add the .log itself, you have to do that manually.

This is a common mistake for people who are new to DivX encoding. They don't realize that to complete the 2-pass mode you need to encode the movie twice, once in 2-pass 1st pass (resulting in a dummy avi), followed by 2-pass 2nd pass (resulting in the real movie).
