Hi All,

I've been testing dvd2svcd for a while whitout success :(

Now the problem I have is the Audio that is out of synch. I've tryed converting dvd rip and avi... always the same...

Hope someone can help!

Ho yeah, all the dvd rips i've tryed that where out of sync where ripped with the internal routine..

What are you using to play the SVCD's?

If you are using Windows Media Player try WinDVD or PowerDVD. Media Player has this issue once in a while.

If that is not the issue try another encode without downsampling the audio to 44100.

I am in a little rush now. If those don't work I will suggest other things when I get a little more time.

@ray Have you played these files in WindDVD or PowerDVD? If so is the sync still there or only when you play it in your dvd player? If the movie plays fine in your software players and not in your dvd player you could go to "vcdhelp" and make sure your dvd player is able to play svcd's and you can find out other usefull information about your dvd player there. As markrb stated you might have to downsample but most dvd players dont need that type of action so its just an option to test.

Another tool that can help you out is doing a search i did a search just now and found tons and tons of information on audio sync problems, as you can tell that there is so many different reasons synch issues happen, and really to guess about what yours could be would be less productive then if you go and read up and do a search other then that to list all the reasons it could be would fill up this page and bore us all:D

Hi Guys,

hey i've played the files on windvd4 and same thing even the muxed files are out of sync.

As you said mark i'll give it a try without downsampling the audio just to see what i'll get.

I had good result in the past with the manual way following one of your guide but it's kinda long..

if you get any idea let me know

Thankx!

ok guys I did my homework, I extracted the uncompressed WAV file with VirtualDub, then I muxed everything with TMPG and still get the same problem... neither the MPG or the VCD play correctly on the computer and the standalone

maybe this can help.. when I opend the the AVI in VDub I got the following msg:

VDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI fil and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compatibility. This may introduce up to 19074ms of skew from the video stream......

if anybody think about something, leave me a note! :)

Thankx
Ray

Are you sure this happens with DVD's too?

There was some talk not long ago by DspGuru and AVI's with bad headers. He suggested using BeSplit to fix the header before converting. You may want to try a search for audio, AVI and Besplit or some combination and look for posts by DspGuru on this subject.
If I had more time I would, but I have to run it's 2am.

how did you mux it back together....im assuming with virtual dub, but what kind of compression did you use when you added the audio back in?

hiya.

I see you're trying to convert the Collatoral Damage divx. I have the problems with this particular divx converting, and I must have converted about 200 films by now. No matter what i've tried via vbud, nandub, extracting audio to wav, stretching wav to make sure framerate calculates at 23.976, etc etc...and it still never seems to work with that movie and 4 others in particular I am still having problems converting.

The problem films I've encountered from divx so far are,
The 6th Day
Collateral Damage
Gremlins
Memento
Detroit Rock City.

I finally the other day managed to get Gremlins sorted.. the drift was only slight, about half a second, but still very annoying, I believe the vid from memory was originally about 23.977. I tried at first matching the fps to the audio, no joy, then extracting audio, changing it to exact audio length in cooledit pro so that it worked out at running as 23.976 then joining with the vid matching that fps, no joy....I finally got it working by some guys guide on here with his idea....however it meant using tmpgenc instead of dvd2svcd....and was to keep both the audio and video matched together at 23.979 or whatever it was....then using my calculator work out the svcd bitrate to use to get the film to fit to 2 cds, then after loading the profile making sure that I went into tmpgenc settings and choosing 'Do Not Frame Rate Conversion'....which created an out of spec mpeg2 file cos it was at the wrong frame rate....however it still played fine in my dvd player :)

I went a few days ago to have a reattempt at Detroit Rock City using that same method....(I think the vid is orig at 23.978 and the audio orig at 23.982 (they're on comp on other room and I'd wake everyone up) but I've tried making the vid and audio match (to the 23.982 this time) but will it bugger play in sync when finished :( grrr so looks like only work in certain cases.

I haven't yet tried this for collateral damage as I'm trying to catch up on other divxs to encode but if u haven't tried it yourself (let me know if you do - even on a quick vcd encode) when I do I'll try n let you know

vbr audio usually doesn't work when converting an avi to svcd...you said you extracted the wav with vdub and then muxed it back together? if you did do this, you need to do it again, but this time only compress using cbr mp3 or some other kind of constant bitrate...i bet ya it will turn out correct after you do this :)

Why do you need to recompress it to CBR MP3 at all? You should be able to do a direct stream copy on both audio and video with the uncompressed wav file. DVD2SVCD accepts wav as an audio source.

Have you checked the framerate in virtualdub? If it's anything other than the standard 23.976fps or 29.970, this could be the cause. You may want to try and do it using one of TMPGEnc's templates then. That's the only thing I've found that would fix the unsupported framerate. (Though, I did have one file that just didn't want to work right. 15fps and the audio just didn't want to sync up. I of course corrected this problem, by using EO Video and converting it to 24fps and uncompressing the audio using it. Fixed it, but that was the only time I had a problem all the rest worked fine.) Not sure what's wrong with DVDs though.

you don't have to...but it doesn't take that long and it saves a little hd space.
