View Full Version : Error message in VirtualDub - Why?!

I'm encoding some video using XviD and following the Doom9 guide. I set up the first pass and the second pass, press "Start" in the VirtualDub Job Control window, and then wait several hours for the results.

When it's all done, the status column for each job says "Error". I check my files and I have a firstpass file (which is unviewable as expected) and a secondpass file which appears to be just fine.

So why does VirtualDub tell me there is an error? Any ideas? My files seem to be good, and I'm sure I followed the instructions in the guide completely.

Thanks for your help!

PS: As an aside, what do you think is the best resizing option for Anime? I've tried neutral bicubic, soft bicubic, and sharp bicubic. They all look pretty much the same...

The resize filter is mainly a matter of personal preference.
Yet, if your video biterate is low, you'd better select soft bicubic. And sharp bicubic could be fine if you have a high video biterate (>1000kbit/s) and if you like sharp images (of couse :D )

For your VD error, I don't know... (BTW what version have you ?) but why pulling out your hair if your 2nd pass file is OK ? ;)

It's VirtualDub 1.4.0, I think. It's the version that was installed with Gordian Knot and all the updates.

Yeah, the second pass seems OK. I just get nervous when I see an error message!

Merci,

The error-

I forget the exact reason, but it crashes at the very end and the video is complete. As I seem to remember it happened with an older version of XviD. Try and get a more recent version.
