How to extract audio from XVID?

Hi,

I'm trying to extract the audio from an XVID but I don't know what kind of audio is in the XVID. How can I find out what kind of audio is being used and what program (VirtualDub I think) should I use to extract it?

To find out the kind of audio:
VDub File->File Information...
OR
http://doom9.org/Soft21/Editing/gspot11.zip

To extract it:
VDub File->Save WAV...
(You can rename the extension later)

When i want to open my avi in vdub, it gives the error `vdub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in avi...`
then when i saved some part of audio in wav format quality loss occurs. could you suggest me a good program for extracting some part of an audio of avi?

i looked many pages of forum but i couldn't find the simple answer of this simple question (people asked rare codecs or multiple audio tracks or sth ...)
i think avi2wav is useful but it gets all the audio--

The vfw avi editors generally can't edit vbr audio worth a damn, and directshow editors don't really exist. So just save it all and cut it outside the editor, problem solved. (There are mp3 cutters around, and there are zillions of wave editors if you don't mind recompressing it.)

In my case the reason for the notice was that I was using AutoGK and its standard preset for converting audio was as VBR. I dunno why the AGK folks built it that way, but I changed it to CBR cuz VBR can cause problems as stated here & elsewhere.

I believe that "fixing it" is as simple as opening the file in VirtualDubMod, opening the Stream List and clicking on Demux. Then you convert the audio w/your fave tool (I use BeSweet), open the file again, go to Stream List, add the new audio track, making sure the old audio track is Disabled (you will see hash marks across it), and finally doing a Save As and it will re-mux the thing w/your new audio track.

Instead of dealiing with these issues with VBR, why not switch to a more robust container format and workflow? Dropping VBR alltogether is just.... I dont know. Too ineffecient for words.

This post isn't related to XviD, as XviD is just the video codec inside your file and nothing to do with the audio within.

Plus, I feel the question has been answered.
