Macrovision and a little magic ?

Hello !

A short, and straightforward question :

Is there a trick to making TV-output possible
when wanting to use the PC as DVD-player ?

I know it's Macrovision, but I also know (from experience)
that MV-patches for software players are quite rare ,
so I'd like to know if there is a method I am not aware
of .

Or are there software DVD players that ignore MV altogether ?

depends on what player you're using. DVD Genie can de-MV most players, I've used it for WinDVD.

What version do you use ?

I have 4.10 , which I think is almost the latest , and I don't find any de-Macrovision buttons there .

Could you maybe either give me the version that can do it , or tell me where that button is ?

And if there are any other methods of de-Macrovisioning DVD-playback for TV-output, I'd also be intereseted in that .

Maybe I should explain myself a bit better .

I do not, personally, have a TV that I could output DVD's t through my PC .

The reason why I am asking this question is the following : I am a kind of moderator at www.dvd.box.sk .

I have heard the question " how to get unrestricted playback of DVD's on PC to my TV " very, very often , but I havent found a decent (if at all) guide anywhere .
That is why I would just like to know what the possibilities are , in detail, as I CANT TEST THEM myself .

So if you can contribute something, please do so .

Well, the best tool i know for that (eliminate macrovision) is Tvtool.
Their latest version (6.8) supports a lot of tv-out chips, and it's image quality is great (see my post in a thread below).
It has many configurable parameters and can be found at http://tvtool.info/index_e.htm

Unfortunally, as all good things, isn't free. But, IMHO deserves the money they charge. They have in the download area a help file, that covers most of the options. Also you might take a look at their FAQ.

I don't own a stand-alone DVD player and I use my PC for that...

I have a fully unrestricted playback of DVD's on PC to my TV :cool:

I use DVDIdle to suppress Macrovision and user prohibition (mainly forced subtitles), and Region Killer to get rid of region control on a RPC1 (firmware patched!) DVD drive...

Maybe you can also check out Remote Selector and DVD Region-Free...

Does that DVDIdle program really work ?

I had been to the site maybe half a year or so ago , when they had just started, or better, just started to get attention from the public for their prog , and then was there again a month or so ago . Half a year ago , there was idle speculation on whether this tool was genuine, or just a rip-off , or something inbetween .
Now it seems that at least some people have used it to their satisfaction . Did you pay for it, and if, how much, or did you get a cr*** (I know I shouldn't even say the word in here ;-) to make the demo work ?

I mean, if that tool really does all that the authors claim on their site, it is an alternative , as it is an all-in-1 thing for most of the hazards of PC-DVD playback .

Anyway, I probably won't get a TV in the next few years , so I'll just collect the data I get here to advise the people on dvd.box.sk .
So keep writing if you know of further possibilites . I may also consider making a guide on this , as I have done some (although all not as good as the stuff on www.doom9.org ; but as far as I know, Doom9 doesn't have a guide on that particluar topic yet, and there isn't a sticky so far as I have looked) before, mainly on subtitle editing ,FlasK (that was a LONG time ago , now I am a devoted GKNot user) and Region-killin' .

I never had any luck to get my site into any search engines (got into google twice ... for about 2 weeks each, then was killed again) , so the guides are largely for my amusement and the dvd.box stuff .

If anyone is interested , or if there are some Germans among you who want to trade DivX videos , my site is at www.jazzmc.gmxhome.de .
I know it isnt that well made, but it was my first one, and I am currently working on a frame-based one . And I hoep to take a html class this semestre or the next .

To suppress Macrovision and forced subtitles? Yeah! :D

To play RCE DVD in a RPC2 drive? Dunno :confused:, since DVD-Region Free came out literally two days after I flashed my DVD-player firmware!

By the way, I went towards DVDIdle because you can test De-Macrovision with the trial, so you don't have to pay to see if it works! ;)
I downloaded the demo and worked for me!!

Also Remote Selector claims to remove Macrovision, but you can't try it with the trial, so I discarded it...
