View Full Version : Is it a way to CUT OFF final CREDITS using DVD2SVCD?

Hi, I used DVD2SVCD for many times and I create very nice SVCDs. Now I have a question: IS IT A WAY TO CUT OFF FINAL CREDITS (or just give them a very small bitrate)?
I tried unselecting the last VOB file, but many times it conains the last 30 seconds of the movie.
I'd like to cut off them because I can increase the video bitrate.
Please answer!!

Yes, sort of. You need to do single CDs (search cut by chapter). For the last CD:
CD size * Movietime / Viewingtime = Oversize
Compute oversize from your data and subtract perhaps 5-10 MB. Enter that number as CDsize. You will need to overburn. If all goes well, once you are a little into the credits, the movie will end...

OK, I understood, but doing so, just the second disc will have higher bitrate than the first.
And creating a too big CDR image, the CDRW drive will not write completely the image, and I think that my DVD drive will freeze (instead of STOP). I have already tried using TOO OVERBURNED discs ...
I though it was easier (like in TMPGENC where I must check the SOURCE RANGE and select the beginning and the end).
OK, Thank you the same!
I had an idea, instead of burnin' the 2 images, I can create a bigger MPEG MUXED FILE, and then edit the file with some program (like MPEG TOOLS). Is it a good idea? Doin' so I don't have the charapters (since they were created when the BIN CUE file are created), how can I find them?

That way works too, requires just more effort. You can use chapter extractor and import those chapter times to vcdeasy, along with the edited mpeg. I have done that too. My conclusion was that I rather have an abrupt ending in the early credits. That reqires just some computations. I can't follow the argument with the bitrate, you can set that if you like. If you convert chapterwise, the bitrates won't be the same anyway. And if you use vbr, it will never be the same... If the DVD hangs at the end, so what? If you are in front, stop the movie when the credits start... or turn the machine off and on.

And if the player completely freeze so nothing appends when I press any button (TODAY HAS APPENED)
OK I understood.
But I'm writing to the creators of DVD2SVCD:"Add an option to set the beginning and the end of the movie!!!!!! PLEASE :)"

Yes it will be possible. Taken from the readme in the sticky above about following future advancements:
Next Version not released yet.
New Feature: Finally, you can now decide exactly where you want the cut to be, or you can use it to remove unwanted credits or just to make samples. How cool is that :)
Now a couple of points do not use all caps to emphasize your point it's considered yelling and in bad form.
Do not use the !!!! one is enough.
Asking for an answer ie. you said "Please answer!!" is a sure way to be ignored. Posting your question is enough. We get the point. You want an answer.
I am sure it's probably a language thing and once you know how we work here it won't be a problem.
The Author DVD2SVCD is a very busy person and does not often have time to answer himself. He knows what people are asking for and to put it bluntly puts in what he wants. Making a suggestion is fine, but don't expect it to be used. If it's a good one then it will be put on the list. It just so happens your suggestion has been asked about for some time by many people and has now come about on the list of things to do.

A search would have revealed this topic:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=31582&highlight=set+start+and+end+times
Containing this great method:
1. Start your conversion like usual - ripping your desired chapter with the internal routines and make sure "Edit as part of Video encoding" is ticked in "Frameserver" tab.
2. If the process stops, presenting the Avisynth script window, leave it open and do nothing with it.
3. Now start DVD2AVI, load the already generated "DVD2AVI_PROJECT_FILE.d2v" file with "File|Load Project".
4. Use the arrow keys or the slider at the bottom to navigate through your chapter and use the brackets "[", "]" to mark only the part of the video you want to have at last.
5. Now make sure you have the correct audio track selected in "Audio|Track Number" (English is usually track 1) and set "Audio|Dolby Digital" to "Demux".
6. Now save the project with "File|Save Project" under the same name.
7. You now have a new *.ac3 file (e.g. "DVD2AVI_PROJECT_FILE AC3 T01 3_2ch 448Kbps DELAY -144ms.ac3") and a edited project file.
8. Delete the already "Extracted_audio_1.ac3" and rename the one from DVD2AVI according to it.
9. Now copy the BeSweet command line from the "dvd2svcd_log.txt" file, paste it into a DOS window and hit ENTER. Now BeSweet should transcode only the part of the audio that belongs to the part of the marked video.
10. After BeSweet has finished, just hit "Ok" in the Avisynth script window and the whole conversion process will continue till the end.
You should now have only the desired part, in a half-automated step. But if you are using subtitles then you might have to adjust the times of presentation in the "PermSubs.txt" file if you have cut a part from the beginnig of the chapter (this will indeed be a little fumbling then). And perhaps it would be better to set "Movie offset seconds in "bbMPEG" tab to "0" so that the chapter will start without the delay if your player supports it.
Or, if you already have all your files from the conversion you should just run steps 3. - 8. and then start DVD2SVCD and do a "recover" from the "Audio Processing" step.Personally, this is the way I have done it for some time. It has always worked for me.
I'm looking forward to the new release when all these extra steps will be a thing of the past though :D

Didn't think of this yet...
But after thinking about it, I will keep my 99.9% fully automated version and enter three numbers into a calculator. I have a life which is more valuable to me than 20-40 seconds of leftover credits, which I could optimize away too. I used to have total control, when I was doing it all manually, and I would cut the logo-intro stuff as well. I am glad that DVD2SVCD came along and forced me stop wasting my time on such petty improvements. ;)
But sure enough, once its in the programm, I will enter the time when the credits start. Nothing wrong with being a perfectionist once it is easy...:D

Me too. It's easyer to create a bigger file and then cut it.
Sorry markrb, but I didn't want to be so "rude" and I didn't want to blame the creator of DVD2SVCD. It's a very good program. I don't speak English very well, so sometimes I'm inprecise ... sorry :)

Hey people get the new beta release, and you can set exactly the start frame and the final frame, among others new features.
I tested and works very well.

Why don't you just cut the vobs you ripped with a simple vob cutter.
I used vobsplit, but u can use whatever u want.
Just cut the vob at the desired point and that's all.

Good idea.
I tried the BETA version, but it doesn't work very well. It doesn't use the STARTING frame I chosen, but it used a frame before my choice (my frame was BLACK, the start frame was a image frame about 30 frames before the black one)

Try another cutter, like ChopperXP 2.1 (http://www.digital-miner.com/)
I'm using to split vobs by chapter with smartripper during ripping of the original dvd then it's easy to cut the last vob usally not bigger than 100-200 mb. With 3 or less tries i'm usally done (but i don't search for so perfects cuts like you do).

Strange, the frame cutting works very well here. In fact I think it works _very_ well.
