I am using Doom9's Gordian knot DivX guide to make my DivX movies. The Guide says to stay close to 1.7 Bits(pixle*frame) for 1 cd movies. My question is I obviously want the best resolution I can get, but also trying to stay near the 1.7 Bits(pixle*frame). Can I use any resulution I want. Meaning not just the W-Module32 and H-Module16. Can I change the W-Module to 16 and H-Module to 8 to try to get as close to the 1.7, or would this mess things up?

do not go below 16 because divx gets encoded in 16x16 macroblocks.

Use b/p*f only as an ESTIMATE of resolution, prior to your first Compressibility test. Then use the LOAD % reported by your test(s), and ignore b/p*f values.

Use b/p*f only as an ESTIMATE of resolution, prior to your first Compressibility test. Then use the LOAD % reported by your test(s), and ignore b/p*f values.

Then adjust your resolution to try to get between 60 - 75% (most people find that this gives the best results). Once you achieve this, do another compressability test to make sure that the % value remains the same. There will be a difference between the % value you get while moving the slider and the result you get when you do another test.

If you can't get a high enough resolution (personally I try not to go below 512x) then you'll have to either decrease the audio quality (don't go below 128k mp3), or use b-frames (if not already enabled) or go to a 2cd rip.
